A few have came and gone without any real attention. An Aerosmith game was around a while ago - pretty poor game with the added bonus of aerosmith. Then came the new breed, the likes of Beckhams soccer or Ms Spears dancebeat thingy which most probably bought to see some virtual bap bouncing.
Then of course was the best celebrity inclusion of any game. Fred Durst in Smackdown 3. Finally a chance to smash his punky little face with a steel chair again and again - takes a lot to beat that in a game.
So where next?
Here are a few ideas we could have for the new batch of celeb games.
Steve Irwin - crocodile Hunted
You play as either Steve, where your missions include trying to really annoy animals by grabbing them, sticking your thumb in nasty places and generally trying to make the animal take a bite at you. Obviously skill is the key here. You must time your jump and hold so that you can wrestle them around.
Then again if you hate steve as much as most you would much rather control a giatn croc that has one aim. Rip Steves head off before he mutters any more of that crap and tries to insert his fingers into any more of your animal friends (some scenes may be unsuitable for small children).
Jamies Kitchen
You take control of jake, a rather crazy homeless bum who wants a job in jamie olivers new kitchen. Your aim in not to make excellent food and learn all about the job, oh no your aim is to butcher the prat in any way possible. Best available is to batter him and launch him into the deep fat fryer and then serve him to the silly punters who find him entertaining.
Celebrity deathmatch
Yes I know it exists and will be released soon. But the graphics don't look great and the gameplay has a lot to answer for.
Why not have a great representation and take all physical features into play.
Then the likes of Mr T will rule all. Could anyone take T on?
Then of course we get the special versions..
Pop Idol Deathmatch
Watch as BIG BIG Rik tries to crush everyone, even manages to take on the newley found boy and girl groups. Only a cleverly aimed guitar to the face will take out this giant obese beast.
Or of course some gay singing by certain male karaoke stars from the show.
Also we would need our Soap Star special.
Watch as hailey the man/woman thing from corrie takes on Peggy from eastenders. Or as big Fred takes on some scouser from Brookie. All far more entertaining that the scripts and stories in the soaps.
There is then the question of voices in games. GTA VC had a fair share of celeb voices which was a very nice addition. Maybe we will see more in future. Although it does ask the question of cost. Obviously a famous celeb is going to cost more than a normal voice actor so is the cost really worth it?
Well in a lot of cases yes. If a game is based on a tv show, film or sport then it only seems right to get the right people doing the voices. Could you imagine an A-Team game (someone make one please) without Mr T doing his voice - it just wouldn't be right.
So it looks like we may see more celeb gaming. Although it seems most want games where they can smash them to pieces and cause them pain or see as much skin on the fit female ones as possible.
I just hope a celeb game based on the music industry will finally let us all cause a great deal of pain to Will Young and Gareth Gates for all they have contributed to the industry.
Maybe one day...
