1. Bad rep during release, meaning that the film is first sneered upon.
2. SEX, lots and lots of sex.
3. extreme use Foul language or violance.
4. Strange lingos and expressions.
5. Unusual characters.
6. If the film has a sequal(s) then there are usually links even if the films are completely different (Kevin Smith films for example)
7. Sad endings.
8. Enough plot twists to get you caught up.
9. Exploitation.
10. making the censors pull their hair out, trying to make the film less 'offending'.
11. A director that is a few sandwhichs short of a picnic, or so caught up in their art filled mind that the film becomes very surreal.
Did i miss anything? please feel free to correct me (unless you are obsessed with gimps and only desire to turn me into one)
Oh..err...right. Um, it's all wrong, I argue every point, Tarrantman, and you smell of chickens.
1) Harrison Ford
2) Dusty/ dirty settings
3) A generic bad guy, preferably specific to one nation. Stereotypes welcomed.
4) That strange English bloke who seems to know very little.
5) A random chick for Indie to get it on with

The short lists of pointers on what's in a "cult film" that everyone has posted so far are more akin to indi film, but really that's not correct either as they are just lists of things that could be in almost any film in any genre (not that I'm syaing "cult" is a genre).

Magnolia was a brilliant William H. Macy film, Mystery Men was cool in a geeky kinda way.. and jurassic parc 3... he was the film's solitary redeeming feature. They actually started shooting that film without a script, you'd never have been able to tell, would you? :-)
