I recently heard that there was gonna be a Final Fantasy film, and it wasn't gonna be based on any of the games that have yet been released. It would be entirely computer animated. What do you guys think of that? Can a game ever make a good film? Look at Super Mario Bros. that was so bad. Look at Street Fighter (starring Jean Claude Van Dammeand Kylie Minogue). I guess this is different because there are no actors to mess it up. (Why God why Bob Hoskins?). The thing is films last around 90mins to 2hours, but I'd want an RPG game to last a couple of months before I was finished with it. So people what do you think would make a good film?

By the way Tomb Raider and Resident Evil are already in the pipeline.

Metal Gear Solid:- The Movie

Plot:- Solid Snake (Rowan Atkinson) has to infiltrate a motorway service station taken over by cloned truck drivers demanding lower fuel prices (each played by Bob Hoskins, but with a jack instead of a toilet plunger). Snake's back up team consist of Mei Ling (Dawn French), Otacon (Mel Smith) and Grey Fox (Michael Fish, code name: Wet Fox). The baddie, Snake's first cousin twice removed, is played by Frank "Ooh Betty" Spencer.

Budget:- Low
Release Date:- Don't hold your breath

Games and films can be good when the game is a open kind of thing, which FF is. Games which are open are mainly RPGs and they have a huge scope of options. A film could be said to be and RPG where the choices are not made by you and which doesn't have alternative outcomes (that you see anyway) so Final Fantasy would be an okay platform to base a film on. The risk is if they try to make it too much like the game, the main part of a game is deciding what to say and doing the fighting, remove the options and you will probably end up with a pretty dull film. So all they really need to avoid is making it based on the game, and instead make it based on the gaming world (and maybe some of the characters i suppose).

Regarding FINAL FANTASY THE MOVIE, try http://www.finalfantasy.com/
where you can see the trailer (wow, you'll want to see this a few times) bios of the voice talent including Alec Baldwin, James Woods, Steve Buscemi, Donald Sutherland, and you can also register for updates. The release, Sony Pictures say, will be during 2001.

I've heard that top Nintendo bloke saying that in a film of the Zelda series he'd like Jake Lloyd (the lad that played Anakin Skywalker) to play the part of Link. Whether he was just saying this or if there is one on the way I don't know.
