"Lord of the Flies"

For an English project in school we have to read a 19-20th century classic book, and my teacher recommended Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I picked up a copy today and have read the first 20 pages or so. The first scene is quite funny, which includes a fat chubby geeky boy nicknamed 'Piggy' talking to another kid called Raplh. We have 4-5 months to read the book (shock horror), so it shouldn't be a strain at all (only 250 pages long). Anyone else read Lord of the Flies? Any opinions on it?

I wonder too ;) My friend is reading an abridged version (lazy smegger) and it says 'As he pulled down the zip a low pitched farting noise was audible', which was not in my version, much to my disarray :(
