I have a dream
Football games will be around forever. Every single football game has been about the user controlling whichever player has the ball. You have total control over the team and so it plays more like an individual game than a team game unless you play with a friend.

All that is except for one game on the old NES, i think it was called World Cup Soccer, it was based around a five-a-side tournament with international teams but none of the players were real, they were imaginary cartoon style characters with sunglasses, mohecans or just angry expressions.
The idea was that you picked one of these characters and became the captain of whichever country you choose to enter with.
You were in control of only your player but by pressing either pass or shoot without the ball, you could shout instructions to your team mates and this opened up a whole new dimension to the fooball game. The graphics were terrible and the controls were very simple but the gameplay was fanastic. I can't understand why this idea was never developed.

Since playing PES2 on the PS2 I had a vision, It came when i was creating a player in the edit mode. I thought wouldn't it be great if there was a game where the first thing you did was create your ideal player. You choose the height, hair colour and look of you player but not the skills.
You have to develop the skills by training and playing matches and by making other decisions during the game.
You see my idea is that the aim of the game should be to progress yourself in a football career that begins with you playing in a five-a-side cup competition with you mates (computer controlled players with their own characters and playing styles).

How far you progress depends on how well you play within the match ie. Pass completion %, no. of tackles, Shots on target, goals, saves or how well you man mark an opponent. It would depend on which position you choose to play.
At the end of this tournament you get spotted by a scout from a team in the lower divisions, you get a wage and bonuses etc, you train on Wednesday and if you train well you get picked for the squad and have a match on Saturday otherwise you watch from the bench.

The idea of the game is to use the money for things like accomodation, cars, going to the local hotspots to network.
Get a good pad and you can increase your attributes at home between training and matches because you will have room for a gym and swimming pool.
Get a flashy car and you will increase you flair this could give you more options for special moves to use during the matches and lead to big sponsorship deals.
Find a footballers wife, start a family and you'll improve your teamwork and influence atrributes which could lead to you becoming captain or star player.
Hire an agent to get you better sponsorship deals for more money.

As you progress through the games you get transfer offers and contract negotiations, eventually if you are good enough, you get the chance to play in the european cups if you're bought by a team that makes it.
If you perform well on that stage you could get picked for your country.
The possibilities for such a game are limitless the balance between the football parts and the more role play aspects of the game would need to be carefully controlled but it would open up opportunities to have post match interviews, team talks before matches and at half time where computer controlled managers give you instructions for the match like mark him, stay on the wing, stay up front, overlap the attackers or play a sweeper role.

Who hasn't dreamt of being a footballer! Well now you can because when John leaves school he buys a pair of boots with his first dole cheque. Before long the crowd are chanting his name from the stands and he becomes John Dole: Football Genius.

Watch out for other titles in the John Dole range such as John Dole: International Flyboy where John goes from flying propellor plane tours of his local countryside to flying a hundred passengers at the speed of sound in Concorde. And John Dole: Prime Minister where John goes from local councillor in charge of a small borough to preparing his country for global war... maybe not!

Yeah, but I haen't played it since I was about 6 years old, (9 years ago now). SO I don't remember much. I do remember the playing fields though. And the fact that I lost his manual for it.

I think there were a couple with the same kick. The different playing surfaces were cool too like sand, ice, concrete and stuff.

I remember that game. My friend still has it. And each team had there own "Special" shot that they could take. Boy, I loved that game. I think I'll borrow it off of him. And according to him (on MSN at the moment) it was called Nintendo World Cup.

I also think that this is the way forward for a lot of Sports games. The characters in the game do not have to be real licensed players and managers but more likely a stylised cartoon version of their real life counterparts. But by introducing a role play aspect to the sports game you will attract some consumers from both sports markets and others. It would be important that the acual training and match engine and animation is good because the game would be hinged on how well you do in that part of the game. However this part would open out into the other features that would affect the players progress.

I really want to play a game like this!
