Bobdlefish has got it spot on. The only way Sony try to stop mod chip production is:

1) Close the companies who make them

2) Change the actual design of the interior of the console every few months. However, this does not at all affect people who already have modded consoles... all it means is that the mod chips have to be modified to work on the new design of the console. From memory, there are 5 different PS1 interior designs.

BTW, I have a topic relating very much to this in Prime... it's worth a look (Sorry to advertise my own topics- but in this case it's better than rewriting the same topic!)

This is complete fiction, all mods for ps2 still work fine, inc all versions of neo mod, and every other main mod
(not including clones) Sony have no way of adding any other write protection to ps2 other than perhaps fade.

This is why Sony has recently shut down two mod chip companies.

Currently iam getting quotes for messiah myself, with the intent of getting final fantasy X and others b4 uk release is even considered.

Hope this info helps

Sbox only uses 1 wire inside the ps2 and that's for power, this is direct feed off the main power not the laser, otherwise the console wouldn't read anything when the chip's turned on!

First of all open up the console and simply use a wire cutter at either end, then turn consoel on and see if anything happens.

Thats why I'm waiting for an external chip or something that won't knacker my PS2 or void my warranty, hopefully before Sony take em on like Bleem ;-)

On the contrary, moding can be GREAT for the true hardcore gaming elite to play the latest games first.

BUT, if you are going to mod, check what kind of guarantee you have... after all, you invalidate the warranty of the console!

From experience, I've only had one bad mod experience when a friend's DC wouldn't work. However, he'd checked the guarantee before, and company paid for the console to be taken from his house and fixed and sent back!

oh well bad luck that your ps2 broke while chipping, i'd say your best bet now would be to search for a ps2 repair service, there are many but some maybe dodgy find a reliable one and get it fixed, because your warrenty is expired now and sony won't help any more. (next time get a proffesional to do it, not that you should get it done at all)

it might share power to the laser?

sounds like a bad chip to me. should of gone for a NEO but messigh is ment to be a safe bet.

you could try taking it to a repair guy. there's one near me that does fault finding as well as chipping, it is risky chipping which is why i didn't bother as of yet.
