I have a few thoughts/ideas/views that I want to share and I don't
want to cut it short and miss out some just to please a few. If you do
read any of this then thanks, I would like to hear any views etc on it.

Right there are many things that to me make the perfect game, the usual are such things as graphics and gameplay. Everyone knows of these. Then there are all the physics behind the game, all contained in the Gaming Engine. Gaming Engines are used in all games, the better they are then the better the finished game should be. They control just about everything and anything in the game that isn’t in the users control. The physics part controls how all objects that can be moved or interacted with in some way will act if they are dropped or shot or physically used at some point in the game. The more detail that is added at these points then the more realistic the game will be. It also deals with the levels, i.e. stops you from running through walls or other characters. It works out what happens when you shoot someone in the leg or shoot them in the head. It is a major part of any game and if it is done wrong then the game will suffer in a big way.

All important as each other, get the balance right and you get a good game?
Well not always. Of course the storyline and idea behind the game are important. Football games are always going to be more important than table tennis games. Certain genres are better as their standard of games are much higher than other areas due to them being more popular or either having better developers than other areas.
But then again there is the game and its characters. Some people like being Tommy, running around Vice city and causing havok. Others like the thrill of imagining that they are being someone else. Like an elf in a RPG you can imerse yourself in this newly created world and be the character you want to be.
Slap your elf wife. Eat your elf food and fight the evil in an elf like
fashion.
All making a game good.

Other things contribute too. Hype is something we all know of but it dosn't affect the standard of the game, just points out good parts or parts that were first included but then removed. Obviously some developers are also better than others due to the way they go about things or the amount of cash they have available to inject into the project for each game.
The days of individual programming ability is long gone.

But there is a dark side to it all, good games are becomming rare these days. Now don't get me wrong there are a lot of great games released every year but sadly there are more not-so good games. Not really what we need.

But is there room for imporvement?
With everything it can always be improved, we are always developing new techniques, better technology. There are a few ideas buzzing around my head as to other ways games could always improve so I'll put them here too.
There is always the idea of mixing genres, something that is slowly being used more and more.

One idea I would like to see more of is to include an extra option to allow us to play as the evil (other) side? Play the game through as the good guys finding out the story of how you save the day, get the girl etc then after that play as the evil side, see the story from their side and try to do as much evil things as you can go. Destroy the world, eat doghnuts and be evil.

Bah, cutting this short. Last few days of uni and lack of sleep is getting to me and my eyes hurt.
Views or anything would be good though. :-)

I've always liked the idea of playing from someone elses point of view. Not necessarily being the 'bad guy' but just being able to take control as someone else in games. Maybe just a few bonus levels at the end of a game where you play as the bad guy or just another random character from the game, and the level plays slightly different to all the others because of who your current character is.

For example (becuase I just got the game at the weekend) in Die Hard Vendetta I think it would be good if there was some kind of bonus level maybe where you played Lucy (McClanes daughter) and had to escape Gruber and his men in a level totally based around stealth (because she's not as hard as her Dad, and if she got surrounded by a lot of enemies she'll get shot to hell or captured). I already noticed some similarities to Commandos in the game in that you can sneak up behind enemies, and enemies have specific movement patterns you study to get them without being seen. A totally stealth based level could be quite cool. As could a level where you play one of the main bad guys with a heavy arsenal and just shoot the crap out of loads of Police, swat teams, etc.
