"Exceed the Banner Limit, please!"

Dear staffies...

Is there any way that you could increase the banner limit for the banner contest (EE GAD Feb)??

Perhaps increase it to around 25/30 kb instead of 15!

I have spent a long time making banners but cannot make a decent one under 25k!

I obviously can use jpegs in animation shop but it makes the image a much lower quality and I don't think SR wants pixelly banners that look worse than the first quake game!

If anyone else feels that the limit should be exceeded please says here and Snuggly may give in.

Just thought I'd post something that I said yesterday....

-- Either make your banners with
(1) Simple large areas of flat colour
--OR
(2) very, very detailed...(See Silent Hill Banner -www.consumer58.netfirms.com)

This is because GIF compression can't deal with mixtures of flat colour & high detail....it doesn't know what to concentrate on so it messes things up!

Just want to reiterate to kyz that if the banners are over 15k then visiting SR would be slow and painful!

Kyz. What programs are you using to make your banners/graphics?

I did my best, Kyz22. I know if you look really closely and compare the optimized version to the original, you can notice a slight differnce. It's not too bad though considering how reduced the file size is, and that they are now all under the 15kb limit.

they have to be around the 15kb as they must load up as quickly as the rest of the page. The whole point of the comp is to get people to design effective banners UNDER 15kb.

You can't just change the rules to please some, wouldn't be fair and it isn't what they are after.

Stop whinging. Lots of people have made great ones under 15k, including all the current SR ones.

i just looked at your banners Kyz and your best ones are under 15k by loads. The only ones above (all 3 of them...) are huge because of the pictures, just get something to optimize the pics so they're smaller.
