Which skills are the best to use as my major and minor skills
is it worth having two types of armor and two or three types of weapon as major or minor skills or should i free up the slots for magic and sneak?

is it worth useing heavy armor or can a combat fighter get away with medium armor?

yeah thank.

Major skills i have choosen are,

Heavy armor
Medium armor
Long sword
Blunt weapons
Restoration

Minor skills are,
Unarmored
Marksman
Enchant
Mysticism
Illusion

I choose mostly skills i can only train in combat, like you said most skills you can train by just hanging around a town doing them over and over again. Best to have at least two weapons skills there because there is always the chance you could find a really cool weapon but your skill is pants in it. I don't think much to the stealth skills most of them you can train anytime with patients. Why have a dagger when you could have a big two hand sword or why wear light armor when medium is around.

What an awesome bit of gamery eh?

Here's my take on it. I've tended towards a jack of all trades type approach, playing an archer, so I've got long sword and marksmen as major skills, and most of my magic skills are being raised in equal amounts.

I'd not bother having more than 1 melee weapon as a major, and probably not as a minor either. It'll restrict your weapon choice a bit, but so what? Frees up slots for magic and sneak. Just make sure you pick the weapon you'll be happy with. Long sword is good, as it allows you to choose between a one-handed (for use with a shield), or two handed.

If you've got a high Dex (especially if you've got racial bonus on Marsman), consider that - it's useful to squeeze off a few arrows to do a bit of damage before you get into a melee situation. Go for Block if you're a combat class.

Do NOT go for Acrobatics as a specialised or major/minor skill. You can raise it ludicrously quickly by jumping everywhere you go in towns and cleared dungeons (i.e. places where you're not worried about running around with no fatigue). It's one of my highest skills, and it's a bog-standard, non-specialised skill.

I'd not bother with Athletics either - you can train that up pretty quick in the same way, running and jumping everywhere. Don't bother with Armourer - you can just use up a shed load of armourer's tools to train that up - join the Fighter's guild, and you can get them free out of the equipment chest - it'll take you a long, long time to run out.

Put Sneak in, as that's more difficult to train, and you'll benefit from the faster training. Consider Security as a minor - it's pretty difficult to train it up. And maybe Speechcraft if you've got a decent Personality attribute. Fill the remaining slots with whatever magic you want. Mysticism can be useful for soul trapping (a decent way to make quick cash - trap souls in cheap gems, and they're worth a mint). Destruction is only any good for a character that's weak in combat - otherwise rely on your weapons. Alteration is useful for all-round adventuring, most notably water breathing/walking. And Restoration will save you a packet in health potions.

*deep breath*

I think that's about it.

Enjoy!
