The story is very, very creative but you have to come to expect that from a game with the prestige of the Final Fantasy Series. As you begin you have no idea as to what is going on then as the game unfolds it gives you little hints or clues to to help you but never just tells you what is going to happen next. Then when you defeat the final boss and it explains further your jaw will hit the floor because it was completely unespected but it makes complete sense with the story. (I wonder who comes up with storys?)
As for the characters with out spoiling anything, I'll just say that each character is very unique and has their own personallity and fighting style. As for the bosses they can be a pain at times. If you don't learn how to you the ability grid to help you build up you might as well get rid of the game because you will never come close to beating it. They still kept the random battles which can become frustrating especially if you have just fought a boss.
In conclusion this game is the greatest game for it's gendre easily. I have never see a game that looks so real and has such a great story line. In other words you don't just play for the fansy graphics. Also it is in no way to short I think that in all it took me almost 32 hours to beat it and I had a blast the whole way. I give this game an easy 10/10 and recommend that if you get any game this year make sure that you get this one.
