Sonic
You have a chose!
Buy just the basic Gamecube which plays all the amazing Gamecube games. Or get a Gamecube that plays all the amazing Gamecube games, but also plays DVD's aswell.
Why would people want one that plays DVD's?
Well they haven't got a DVD player, so why not get one that looks really stylish, and can play Gamecube games!
Also, so people might prefer to get an X-Box or even worse a PS2 just for the fact that it plays games and DVD's. So Nintendo are covering themselves from people being put off them due to their console not providing this service!

Correction, Nintendo don't usually design games for specific age groups, they design them for ALL age groups.
Anyway, a lot of games for older people are being ported and designed for GameCube.

If you go out and buy a cheap DVD player for £100 you're gonna find it's pretty crappy, especially if it's multi region for that price.
