Is there any point to it. I mean. An extra £100 just for a region 2 dvd player. You can pay less than that for an all region one.

An extra £100? I hope you're thinking of an NTSC one and not a PAL one, coz you'll have a VERY hard job finding a PAL one.
However, if you haven't got a DVD player and your TV accepts NTSC signals (and you don't mind importing Gamecube games) then go for it!
