i have an idea for a game and was wondering how i should go about contacting a game publishing company etc

Just e-mail whatever game company you're looking to send the idea to, but I wouldn't build you're hopes up.
try and do everything to prevent giving all details away, you don't want to be ripped off.
Someone at my school has got an idea for a game. He said there's an Activision in Slough.
