Thinking about the massive amount of game characters created, some famous-some not so famous, I wondered, "Why not try and match them up with the real stars or why not basically anything!?" It doesn't have to be an exact measure up, but instead just someone that you think resembles them. They have quite a lot of things in common, like obviously they both 'act', but they might also look similar to one another. Yeah yeah, I know game characters don't really know that they're acting like film stars, looking from their perspective, but I think it would be quite fun mixing up ideas, so here comes my list of match-ups...just try and picture them!

Mario

Now, for starters, any famous actor who resembles this stumpy, Belgian-looking plumber just has to be bad at acting. Forget about how good he plays for a moment(not that kind of play) and try and recollect periods when he has been placed under the theatrical limelight; that meaning, movie bits of the game. Let him off for his juvenile days on the good old NES and Snes where you could barely figure out whether he was angry or just desperate for the loo, but focus more on his recent appearances on the N64 and Cube, and you'll realise that he really can't act. Take the beginning of Mario Sunshine for instance, where all you see are cheesy cliches of Mario sitting chunkily on a seat of the plane with the Princess sitting beside him, mesmorising over his upcoming vacation on a gorgeous island. Plus, he rarely speaks and makes use of no body expressions. From this evidence, you would think he was simply a side-part to the movie with no main role at all, but it's Mario's appearance that saves him from the shame to give a really good resemblance. He's short, stumpy and forget about the moustache for now. Have you guessed who it is yet?... it has to be Danny DeVito! Wait for it, picture it for a moment and.. there you go! No arguments.

Solid Snake

I think you will agree that this is quite a tough one to judge, and for those who don't know who this guy is, where have you been for the last decade or so? He's only the most hyped up character in the living history of gaming! Anyway, if I was to say who Snake's counterpart would be, it would have to be quite a good, macho type actor. I think even the critics would agree with me on this one that the acting on MGS2 was quite impressive, even with the conversion from Japanese to the English language. The music and all that gave the movie scenes a great cinematic effect like normal action films have, which may have made Snake look better than he really is. But you've got to give him credit for both of his espionages. He made them so intense. After receiving a greater amount of detail on the latest MGS2, stubby beard and so on, I'm thinking more in the direction of Russell Crowe. They've both got the same tone of voice, acting styles and same sort of looks. Russell Crowe's performance in 'Gladiator' springs to mind. I'll leave you to conjur up an image of comparison.

Tommy Vercetti

Fair enough, he only arrived just recently in Vice City, but GTA games have been around for ages now and to me all the characters are the same. Thinking about it now, I think I had the most fun controlling this guy in Vice City. He was quite funny at times, angry, stylish...all the things that make a cool actor, like the ones issued in films like 'Pulp Fiction' and 'From Dusk Till Dawn'. Tommy was privileged to be placed in a very life-like and violent world because it also made him appear very life-like and very violent as well, which has encouraged my decision that he is the gaming counterpart of the one and only Robert De Niro. Robert De Niro is very famous for violent roles in films and him and Tommy on this occassion are similar in the way they always try and make an impact in their gangster driven society. They both look alike, dress alike and act alike, occassionally with much violence. A match made in Hell!

Joanna Dark from Perfect Dark is...

...her out of The Matrix...that's it, Trinity! Don't know her real name unfortunately, but they are both very alike in the way they cannot resist a good brawl, with or without guns. The funny thing that really drew me to this conclusion was their heads! They both have very oval shaped heads with dark hair and tough facial expressions. Although, the N64 barely had the power to display revolutionary facial expressions you could still slightly see the anger on Joanna Dark's face, as well as scrunched up wrinkles on her forehead. I can't remember if Joanna Dark wore leather in her rather famous escapade, but I think both women also have the same body curve, which is quite nice if I may say so myself.

Lara Croft

No, I'm not going to say that she resembles Angelina Jolie who actually played that part in the film, but something more intriguing than that, and what I think is a much greater resemblance. I'll give you a couple of clues: she was on 'I'm a celebrity! Get me out of here!' and she was either moaning or crying, she appeared on the RI:SE morning show quite a lot and she is extremely rich! If you don't know by now, it's Tara Palma Tomkinson. Just check out the resemblance! Not just for the fact that their first names rhyme together, but both characters also have the same posh, english accent, they look very much alike and their both quite feisty women, if you know what I mean. Remember the teasing moment of Tomb Raider 2 at the end, where Lara gets into the shower?...yeah, thought you would...and I'm sure you've read in the papers about certain naughty happenings concerning TPT. Now do you know what I mean? If only Tara Palma Tomkinson could act, she could have starred in the film instead, and earned a few more bob, rather than lagging about the house all the time.

Monkey out of Super Monkey Ball

It reminds me a lot of Tony Blair for some apparent reason. Not just because the monkey does a lot of pointless activities and literally talks out of its tail-end, but also because they look very similar to each other. I'll leave you to work the rest out.

Chris Redfield from Resident Evil

This guy, from what I can remember was the most macho type character in the original, and it was whilst controlling him that I got the biggest shock ever when several zombified dogs crashed through the windows of the corridor I was simply investigating. Although, the original for the Playstation has now been improved for the GameCube, both graphically and in the gameplay, you can still control Chris, and it's then that you will see how much he reminds you of... Tom Cruise! Just a minute now.. think back to his chunky, rescue mission type appearance and compare him to Tom Cruise in films like Minority Report and Mission Impossible... you should find their similarities somewhere around there. Plus, both their head and their bodies are cube shaped...weird!

I'll do one more for now and that is...

Max Payne

Now, this is the man with the face like a smacked bottom, so I feel sorry for whoever I choose to resemble him for his looks. No, it's not Keanu Reeves just because the game plays similarly to The Matrix film, neither is it John Travolta (if any of you were even thinking that), but it's more of a fearless and hard character that some would refer to in his days at Wimbledon as the king of all nutters. This obviously has to be, Vinny Jones.. obviously. Now he's older he may not look so similar, but in his earlier days, he looks the splitting double of Max Payne. I'm not referring to him as an ugly guy in any shape or form, not that I am really in the right gender to be judging anyway, but character and looks wise, they both resemble each other.

And to finish off with, here are a few miscellaneous mini-match-ups:

Zelda looks like one of Santa's little helpers or you could even say a lepricorn.

The Hitman out of the Hitman series looks like the dude that used to present the Crystal Maze.

Mark Hammond from The Getaway looks like Tom Green(somehow).

And, those ugly creatures the Pikmins have to get rid of remind me a lot of Charlotte Church..no offense.

Try and make up your own bundle of any of your own memorable characters!

Magic. I pictured Danny DeVito before you even mentioned him.
