With the power of the X-Box console along with the X-Box Live service, I've been thinking about games and improvements that I'd love to see in them. The online play in particular has so much potential and I'm guessing plenty of you lot have some cool ideas as well. :-)
Heres a few I'd love to see happen...

Online football game.
By this I don't mean a football game that 2 players play against eachother (like you would with NFL Fever 2003). I mean 11 players vs 11 players with each one taking a specific position of the field.
Offline, instead of simply having existing teams, you could make up your own one and gradually build up your teams skills (kind of like distributing points to your custom bike in Moto GP). This way, you'll end up having a player for every position on the pitch.
Once online and in a lobby, the players can then decide what positions they want to take up and use the appropriate characters they've built up.

When playing, the camera view could be similar to the Fifa games but instead of following the ball, it follows your character, its then upto you to get into space to get the ball passed to you.
The only player who has a different camera angle is the goalkeeper who has a more behind the goal angle, making it easier to see shots coming (this could change for situations like corners though).

If done properly, this could be an excellent game to play with lots of potential for leagues and online tournaments. Imagine an online play version of the world cup. :-)
Going back to the character building, peoples players might be considerably different. One player might be really good at tackling and passing while another is excellent at free kicks and shooting.

Online battle games.
A lot of you have no doubt played the likes of Dynasty Warriors 2+3 and the LOTR: The Two Towers. I think it would be great to play a game like this online with loads of players fighting for different armies in various locations.
Maybe it could be put into an RPG style world where you have towns, forests, etc. But when it comes to the way it plays, etc, it would be good to have that kind of battle put into it so you could be involved in some epic fights. :-)

This extends to other games such as FPS like Halo which has massive confrontations between the Humans and the Covenant. It would be great to have large scale battles with drop ships dropping in more players as they join in and vehicles and supplies being dropped for players as well.
Another good game for this would be the story from Mech Assault. A few of you might know that Mech Assault is based on the battletech universe which has quite a big story going on.
It would be great to have large scale mech battles to take part in that go further than what Mech Assault already offers. :-)

Hunting game.
Not deer hunting, but more of a Predator style theme. Rather than walking around woods, shooting the likes of deer, you could travel to various planets and hunt various lifeforms and collect trophies that can be put on display in your ship.
You could have access to various types of weapons, etc, depending on what suits your tactics and how you want to go about taking out the various beasts (these could also greatly vary in size and hostility).
Take this online and it could be superb ! You could download new planets, lifeforms, weapons, etc. Not only that but you could travel around with other players and hunt together, especially when taking down a very large lifeform. Maybe you could also see other players trophy collections.
Of course this kind of game wouldn't be strong in the story department, but I bet it would become very addictive. You could also have a create a character area where you put your personal touch to your character so when online, there are plenty of different hunters around.

Online extreme sports.
Take the likes of a surfing game or a Tony hawks game and then add the chance for players to goto a beach or street and just freely enjoy themselves with no time limits.
You could have a street as one big lobby full of players where they can just watch eachother show off their tricks or generally mess around. For those that want to get competitive, maybe a couple of players could activate a challenge together by pressing a button and both selecting the same thing to do, such as the most points scored in a certain time limit, etc.
This could also be done with a surfing game on various beaches. Sometimes it would just be nice to grab your board and enjoy showing off for awhile and not HAVE to get competitive with other players (but doing so if you wish).

Online GTA style game.
Plenty of us have enjoyed playing the GTA games, so an online game with plenty of players would be excellent. A huge city to roam around in and generally do as you please. If you want, maybe you could even create a gang with other players and basically claim your own territory.
This could also lead to trying bank jobs, etc - imagine the chaos as your all chased around by the police and SWAT. ;-))
Maybe a large amount of players could even decide to just go nuts and have a riot, trashing everything in sight - including eachother.
Plenty of fun to be had. ;-)

Never ending stories (seemingly anyway).
I love playing RPG's and stuff and theres been talk of extra little quests, etc on a number of upcoming titles.
What I was thinking though is maybe using the possibility of downloading new characters. What I mean by this is take the likes of Fable, where every character seems to have their own personality and life going on.
Beyond completing the normal game, the world could go on (like Morrowind seems to from what I've read from you lot). From here, you could download new characters where you're not really sure of what you've downloaded.
Your new downloads could start their life as young kids in various towns, but grow to become strong characters and even sinister enemies as the game years pass, maybe with plenty of their own background stories and tragedies that you find out about.
So rather than just downloading a new short quest, you're downloading new lives that effect your game.

So until things develop, you may not bump into these characters or glance at them twice in your travels, but a few game years later and the whole land could be overrun by a new enemy and his army that has grown over time with all kinds of political background and developments. maybe killing one of these new characters early on could lead to other concequences later on.

Anyway, those are some of my recent ideas, hope you like them - if I haven't put you to sleep. I split them up a bit so you can see anything that might interest you more than others. :-)

Yeah, Star Wars Galaxies looks like its going to be one of the major online games coming to X-Box Live. :-)

I can see the top pullers online being Halo 2, SW: Galaxies and Counter Strike by the end of the year. :-)

Good ideas.
I especially like the Hunting game, particularly as part of an online hunting team. And in the similar way the online Battle games - being part of a huge army set in a large Halo-type gameworld fighting an equal opposing force would be cool.
The football one is interesting, though I'm not sure how it would work in practice. Players would have to be very disiplined and almost professional if you wanted to have a worthwhile match. I can imagine everyone running after the ball like some demented Sunday League fixture.

What interests me about online play is games set in vast gameworlds wherein each player is part of something that feels huge. My interest in Xbox Live might just step up a notch when Star Wars Galaxies arrives on the scene.
