Hello my friends.

Have any of you got PS2 compatible USB peripherals?

I've got a Logitech Mouse (USB) but no keyboard yet and was wondering if ANY USB keyboard will work or if the Datel one is the only realistic (safe) one to get.

As yet I can't confirm whether the mouse works as I believe both the mouse AND keyboard have to be plugged in to be recognised for use.

Any tips etc would be appreciated.

Well I'll certainly review it at some point so we'll all see if it is worth buying.

As we all know that I try to write quality reviews.... ;)

I'd probably rather not get Half-Life on the PS2, although the co-op mode is quite tasty.

Half Life on the PS2 is, in theory, better than the PC version. Updated graphics (only to a point but characters are more detailed among other slight touches) and of course there's the inclusing of the co-operative mode and I believe there is even a botmatch option.

I've got it in the sales for £24.99 so despite having played the PC version to death I just couldn't resist it at that price.

My tip (without having played it) is that if you LOVED the PC version then the PS2 version is worth picking up if you can get it at a decent price.

Obviously as it's not SR I can't really tell you where I got it for that price. Unless you e-mail me or something.

PS: I love SR with all my heart.

Is Half-Life any better on the PS2 than it is on the PC. Digitiser (Channel 4 text p480) said not, and I trust them. What was the point of me just saying that?

Ah, now THAT is the million-dollar question! :-)

For the USB keyboard, just get the cheapest/simplist one you can find.

I went down to a local computer fair. On one of the stalls they had a USB keyboard. It was just in a brown box, no pictures, and no brand name. It was £6, so I thought it was worth a try.

When I got home, I plugged the keyboard into the PS2 and booted up YABASIC, it worked perfectly, so I decided to try AR2 V2. This also worked perfectly.

So, it seems that buying the Datel keyboard is a rip-off and any simple USB keyboard should work better, but don't hold me to that.

I know that someone over at Dooyoo.co.uk reviewed the PS2 wheel and said that he'd found the appropriate drivers to get it working on his PC.

I'm not fussed about Yabasic but am not sure if 'every' USB keyboard will work.

I know that some peripherals have specific drivers (including M/Soft) and my Logitech Wingman mouse does too so I'm guessing the most basic stuff without driver discs should work....

I tend to agree with you Wookiee - may be safest to wait for the official stuff. Then again though, when's that out as Half Life should have arrived today.

But I still want to know if the PC version will work on the PS2, or the PS2 version will work on the PC, I belive it will if you get hold of the drivers but I'd like it confirming.

Despite claims that it's 100% compatible, the Datel keyboard is NOT.

I bought one primarily to use with YABASIC and it didn't work - keys kept repeating ridiculously quickly, and it it was impossible to type anything. Assuming it was faulty, I exchanged it for another - which also had the same problem.

I e-mailed Datel and they told me that they knew it didn't work with YABASIC. So I got a refund; after all, if it doesn't work with YABASIC, what else might it not work with?

I think a standard USB keyboard should be fine - most of the pictures I've seen in PS2 mags seem to indicate that they're using a Mac USB keyboard, and they've never mentioned any complaints.

As for a mouse... I couldn't tell you!

All I can say is that I'm now waiting for the official Sony keyboard and mouse, as you can't really go wrong with that.
