Developers are doing it for a reason though, and it's not to wind you up, as much as you might think it is.
They don't want the Playstation2 to have such a large market share.
It might sound strange, as you think they'd make more money from one system with millions of users, but no, they'd rather have competition in the hardware market, and they're doing everything in their power to get it.
Imagine if there was only the PS2.
Sony could charge whatever they wanted for licenses to develop for their system. Developers don't want this, they want to be able to go to Sony, or Microsoft, or Nintendo and say "How would you like this game to debut on your system, six months before we port it? You would? Okay, drop the licensing fees then. Oh you won't? Microsoft will!"
Developers remember the high fees they were paying Nintendo when they ruled the roost, so now they're working hard to try to stop Sony from getting into a position where they have quite so much power.
