Xbox Losses Double article - http://www.gamesindustry.biz

The way I see it, sure, they lost $348 million between October and December last year, but I look at it as investing in the future.

Having said that, it's still a lot of money, but then I'm sure Bill Gates can afford it considering the profits made from other Microsoft companies during the same 3 month period. Woe betide anyone thinking of going into the console industry with a new product in today's day and age.

Questions:

How many years will it be before XBox will turn a profit?
I've looked everywhere, but can't see any articles where Microsoft are saying that losses on this scale are part of their plan, anyone know any different?
Are Microsoft going to be prepared to continue with XBox if losses over the next quarter continue to be as high as this?
Their XBox revenue went up, $447 million more than during the same period 12 months previously. That's better than a 50% increase, but is it enough?

As long as MS shift the units it will develop a much needed fan base and keep software developer's on board.

They can build from there with Xbox 2 and turn it into a money magnet.

It does'nt matter.

Probably the main reason for the losses is because of the nVidea/Microsoft arguement about chip prices ect.

That's a huge increase in revenue they have, even if their losses are greater. I suspect the main aim at th emoment is to get XBoxes in as many homes as possible across the globe, and if that means bigger losses then so be it. There's no way Bill Gates will back out of it now anyway - he's got far too much pride to take that sort of loss of face.

The way I see it, they've only made greater losses because of all the extra console deals. That tells us that at the moment they're more concerned with number of units shifted and market share than they are profits. If revenues were falling, I'd be worried. As it is, I'm pretty sure Microsoft are going in the right direction with this.
