It may not affect some people, if it is only released in black, but it'll certainly look odd against the indigo 'Cubes that many of us own.
And if this is the case, then how come the initial shots of it showed indigo versions of this product??

It's true. I've seen it on different sites.
Nintendo have a habit of releasing stuff in different colours - at first I thought the GC was only gonna be available in Purple but look they released a Black one too. so I reckon, by the power of experiance of Nintendo's previous colour related releases, that it'll come out in the same colours as the GC is available in.
