What am I talking about?? 2 next-generation consoles, and their name's! The simmilarity is surprising especially when no company has seen the other's name and copied it. And even more stranger that they could both be released at the same time!!
One is called the Game'CUBE'. More of a rectangular shape than a cube, but due to it's uniquely small shape, it's know as the 'Cube'. And the game part obviously comes from what the console's used for, GAMING. After previous names that have included 'Entertainment System' this new name comes as a surprise to all of us Nintendo fans. We'd expect it to be something like the 'UtraNES' or 'HyperNES', even though the 64-bit machine was known as the 'N64'.
The other is called the X-'BOX'. Not exactly a square shape, but it is frightfully big and dark, making it box-like. This is Microsoft's first console after huge success with a range of PC's and PC software. What does the X mean?? PC means Personal Computer, could it be 'unknown' or is it really as shoddy as a 'xylaphone'?? After all, it did crash infront of thousands of eager viewers!
Do Microsoft know the 'how to create a new console' rules???One of the first rules must be to 'keep you ideas original and not copy from your rivals'. And yet, they still come up with 'box' which is similar to 'cube'. Is this a hint as to why MS are so successfull, and why Bill Gates is so incredibley wealthy??? Or did Nintendo cheat??? They have been around for +100 years, why have they lasted so long?? Is their something we don't know about??
Ok, so maybe it is completely rediculous to suggest that one company would copy ideas from their close competition. But what about the 'N'64. Did Bill Gates and co. like the idea of one letter first, and decide to take it into their own hands?? After all, the 'X' does add mystery! But Microsoft doesn't begin with an X, so maybe not. Could you imagine the 'N-box'?? N would equal NO! in my terms.
You cannot blame them for having similar launch dates though. Maybe as MS saw that Ninty hadn't announced their date, that they could take up their space and time in March?? Nintendo have launched their last few consoles in March, could this be a strategy of Bill Gates??? And as for the names, I must stress that it is very strange to find 2 rival next-gen. consoles with similar names!
GameCube and X-box. What are you're thoughts???
I think the name 'Nintendo Eclipse' would have been good. If anyone knows where I got that from, please post here...
Oh! I know. Its from the GameCubes rumoured name " Star Cube" (or something with star in it anyway :D) hence "eclipse" and the nintendo doesn't take to much to work out...
It actually crashed at a pre-E3 press conference. It's a bigger scandle that Nintendo didn't even have proper Gamecubes at E3, but rather had tarted up dev kits, not surprising as the actual spec of the GC was only decided two weeks before E3, or something like that, everyone else canm make up the facts they can't remember, so I will too.
2) The X in X-box is a direct reference to the fact that the system runs on the basis of the direct-X api. So, emmmmm, it makes sense really. And it says box, because it's a box shape. It would have been much funnier if they had called it X-toilet though,,,,,,,,,
