i get this problem sometimes but usually standing my ps2 in the vertical position solves it. donno why but it works for me.

clean the drive, it worked for me

I cut out a thin piece of tape in the shape of a disc, same size as the picture on the disc. Stuck it on the disc and it worked fine, got this from arty at petrolheadz.net. Seems this problem happens mostly with the purple discs?

Type: disc read error into the 'Type your question here' box
Select: 'Technical Support' in the drop down box and click the double arrow just to the right of it.
