More than ever, I can’t stop hearing people complaining about release dates of such gaming items as Gamecube, Xbox, Metal Gear Solid 2 and many others. People often say things like “Nintendo are so annoying” or “What is the point in the Xbox not being released till March, when the States get it in December” or whatever. The thing is, those companies delay the games for a couple of reasons. The first reason is the logical one. The game/console is simply not ready yet – it may have technical faults, may be uncompleted, or is yet to have changed to the European PAL system. The second reason is a bit different, a bit “muahahaha – not really”-ish.

First they make an announcement at E3 or Space World about it. Then they give little bits of info + screenshots every so often. Next thing you know it’s been released in Japan, and a possible time it will be released in the UK is announced. So we wait. And wait. The released date is pushed forward. And forward. After a pile load of complaints, the gaming item is released, everyone’s happy, mini saves the day, the end.

Or not. You see, Microsoft or whoever put that date forward to hype things up a bit, and they would have made less if it had been released earlier. Whilst the release date gets put forward, more people chat at how amazing it’s gonna be, and rumours spread, making more people want to buy it. The earlier it’s released, the less people are gonna pre-order it, and people are gonna have less time to decide whether to get it or not.

So you see, young samurai, that the reason why release date is moved forward, is so more money can be made. Do not be fooled by Jedi mind trick, master Yoda…

dates are occasionally moved because in some way it will either make money or save money. (or simply help the game being finished)
