I think Final Fantasy X just edges it for things to do.
Thief: The Dark Project - A FP action/strategy game for the PC. It came out about 1998/1999 and was hardly recognised but it was so good and I still play it today. Thief II got a little more recognition and was out about 2001. Thief 3 is due for release later this year and will be a beast of a game using the Unreal tournament 2003 engine and it has been produced over about 3 years. It will be amazing.
The whole game series is my favourite of all time but if I had to pick a single game I'd say Resident Evil for the GC because it is sheer brilliance.
