The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
How often do you get frustrated when it comes to reading replies? For example:
If someone replies to you with, “Wow, that’s one incredible topic”, or what if someone says, “In fact, it was not as good as I had expected”.
Look at the phrases – the words. Examine the word “good” for example in the second reply. Now what do you realise about the expression in the one who sent that post? Nothing! Because you cannot see his/her face expression(s) to understand if they are saying it whilst emphasising something.
99.9% of Internet users hold one or more e-mail addresses. Now, everyone at Gameaday has one for certain, otherwise, you could have not created an account here. Anyway, most of you will realise that when composing a new message to send via e-mail, you notice an option, which allows you to send your message with plain text, or using rich text.
I think that the chat forums should give you this option, for two reasons:
1 – So you could send your post, empathising what you want to say.
2 – Because when it comes to reading other people’s replies, it’s very difficult to know if they are joking with you, or being serious, or even being sarcastic, but with serious meanings.
Does anyone agree to this idea? I value all opinions and don’t mind reading something different to mine.
Thank you.
Hope you lot are having a good weekend.
Anyway, I would just like to say thank you for the replies. I too agree with what you're all saying, to a certain extent, and I suppose that as long as expressions with normal text will help people understand others, I guess that this forum is fine just the way it is.
It was only a thought of mine that would possibly make the forums look better and much easier to use.
I find that deciphering whether of not someone is serious, is half the fun of this forum.
Too true. Think of the stupidity of Ant otherwise :p.
:) :D :P :S :(
i'm sure others can think of more.
That's something that the internet can give, which real life chat makes much, much harder to do.
Personally, I like it this way.
