Chalked in for a Christmas release this year is a game by a new company in the gaming industry who go by the name of Lonesoft. Their first attempt at a computer game is called ‘Playground Mega Collection’ and sees the games player taking part in a number of Playground games they may never of had the chance to play before.

We spoke to the Director of the project about how he thought the game would do in the market and what impact he thought the game will have on the public.

“This is something I have been waiting to do for a long time. Believe it or not, I was actually a loner myself back in the school days and so creating this game was something I just had to do for the public. In a way I wanted to show people who are like I was what fun they could have had in the playground and for those who are already enjoying the games to continue their play outside the school. I think the game is going to be massive hit with youngsters and adults playing alike, we also hope for a Gameboy Advance link up so two or maybe even four people can play at once. But for now we’re just concentrating on the game itself.”

As said by the Director himself the game will launch on the Gameboy Advance and so you will be able to take the game anywhere for that more ‘Playground like’ feel.

After having a Coffee with the Director we sat down to ask him about some of the games within ‘Playground Mega Collection’ and why we should be looking forward to them.

Duck, Duck, Goose
I wanted to add this game into the Playground Mega Collection because it was something I’d sit, watch and cry about because I was never the Duck nor the Goose. In this game everyone sits in a circle and one person walks around tapping people on the head calling them a “Duck” or a “Goose”. If they are called a “Goose” then that person must chase the person who tapped them on the head and try and catch them before they sit in their place and this continues. Well that’s what I made of it from the sideline. I think you can expect alot of button bashing for this game.

Balldog
Sometimes I’d just be walking around the centre of the playground and suddenly everything would go quiet. I’d continue walking around, face to the ground kicking a stone and then suddenly a stampede of kids would trample me to death running from one side of the playground to the next. When I did try to join in I was still crushed. Balldog sees everyone but a few a people lining up on one side of the playground and when “BALLDOG!” is shouted everyone runs to the other side trying not to be touched by the people who are in the middle. If you are touched then you become one of the hunters otherwise you stay as the prey. Taking the brutality out of this game and putting it in your hands is something I really want to achieve. Again, another button basher but a great Multiplayer game.

Skipping
I always use to watch the pretty girls jump over a rope and I’d sit there daydreaming waiting for one of them to come over and talk to me, or at least look at me. Sadly, it never happened and so I went back to the stone (not a drug). In Playground Mega Collection you have to wait until the rope comes near your feet and then press ‘A’ to jump. The whole process speeds up and overall I find it rubbish. I just wanted to try and make something which looked like those girls but instead they look like stickmen. Much like the other people in the game.

Freeze Tag
Keeping on the subject of the pretty girls I added Freeze Tag to the Playground Mega Collection. People run around and someone is ‘it’. When someone is touched they have to stand still, legs apart. The only way to unfreeze someone is to crawl under their legs. I once had the opportunity to play this and loved the sound of girls screaming “Go through my legs!”, then I would and I could of stayed there forever. But then they slapped me and so that was me to the medical room and a quick call home to Mummy. ‘A’ makes you run and ‘B’ makes you crawl. Simple but effective.

Boot It!
One day when I was walking into school to go and see Miss Fatterberry about my homework I couldn’t do because I puked on it and suddenly I heard “BOOT IT!” in a big, husky voice. I turned to see who said it and after that all I remember is darkness. I was told a leather football was kicked in my face and I was knocked out for a good six minutes. I think this may have been some kind of game and I’m sure it was fun, so I added it.

Conkers
I use to love the time my favourite tree had Conkers falling off of it. Once I collected 100 Conkers and put them in a hole I dug over a period of twelve lunchtimes. Then one day they had all disappeared and I saw a trail of them going to the Lake. I saw a lot of people hitting Conkers on strings against other peoples and seeing who’s Conker would break first. People use to vanish theirs up to make it tough and those were the ones that broke my nose once. In the Playground Mega Collection version you first have to hunt for the Conkers, then modify them and then battle them. This is one of my favourites.

POG’s
At one point everyone started bringing in this round like things, with pictures on them. They called them POG’s and they were great fun to collect and battle. I once spent all my years pocket money on them so they could be nicked the next day. One boy, who was bigger then me, once had many people gathering around him. I poked my head over the top to see what was going on and suddenly a spiky, shiny thing was unleashed from his backside pocket. “This is a Metal slammer” he said and everyone stood back in fright. That slammer ripped POG’s to shreds and so that night I went and got one myself so I could become popular. The next day I bought it in and everyone else had one, I tried to show them mine and even scraped it along the floor to make it sharper and more deadly but it didn’t work. Nice try by me though. In Playground Mega Collection you must collect the POG’s and then battle them. If you do well enough you’ll get the Metal slammer, but only if your good.

Football Stickers
I never did like football but collecting the stickers could of made me popular so I gave it a try. I had a large stack of stickers and nobody wanted to swap with my because they said my stickers “stunk like poo”. I saw somebody throwing all their stickers up once and everyone gathered round to collect as many as they could, like they were money. So I threw mine up, all £500 worth, and they all lay on the floor and nobody cared. “SCRAMBLE!” I shouted like the other kid had but still no-one came. I walked away back to the stone (not a drug of any kind remember) and when I turned back all my cards had gone. Either they were picked up or blew away in the wind. I don’t know. The aim of the Playground Mega Collection version is to collect as many stickers as possible and try and complete your sticker book. You can then go to the Playground and swap with others pressing ‘A’ to say “Got” or ‘B” to say Need”. Then you must show the other person your stickers to see which ones they need. It’s great but we couldn’t get a license for real players names/faces. Instead players names look African and players faces all look like stickmen.

“That’s all I’m telling you for now” said the Director, “I don’t want to spoil the surprises we have in store for you”. “I would like some suggestions though on what other games there were in the Playground, I’m sure mine differed from everyone elses”. So maybe this was a cry of help from the Director?

I asked him if we would maybe see a Playstation 2, Xbox or GameCube release. “Hmmm” he mumbled, “Maybe then we won’t have to use stickmen to fit it all on cart”.

Finally I asked the Director if he’d consider putting Dodgeball in Playground Mega Collection. His reply was “No, it’s crap”.

In concept it was a plie of poo, In practice it was more fun than blocking the school toilets with toilet tissue and the class gerbil.

When ever we used to play the problem we had was that for those that could 'lob' a tennis ball further than the rest of us, they used to clear the playground and it used to always go in this old mans garden who'd never give 'em back!

I can't say I've ever played 'Lob-Ball'. Seems like a rubbish concept though :-D

What we used to do was there'd be two teams with each standing at the opposite end of the playground. Then someone from one of the teams (Everyone took it in turns) would throw a tennis ball to the other side. If they caught it, they'd get 1 point, if they didn't catch it, your team would get 1 point. If you could throw a tenis ball really far then you were basically a god to all the other 9 year olds in the playground....quite sad really, never-the-less seemed a good idea at the time!

Lob-Ball.

I searched for this in google quickly and got nothing but a Womens Professional Lob-Ball league. Still didn't state what it was though I think it's Baseball. Hmmm maybe I'm being dumb?

I thought of one I was going to put in.

Hop Skotch.

I don't know how to play it though. I don't actually think there are any rules even...
