After reading a rather, how to you say, it , makes you feel like pouring acid down your throat because its horrible kind of thing? Not violent horrible, god forbid :o) but just “Urgh!!” horrible.
A mate brought in an FHM True stories book. So after a quick read we came across a story, that is amusing, very amusing, but also made me think about something. Here’s the story as well as I can remember it,
Basically, 2 lads pulled 2 girls. They went back to somebody’s flat was a bit of naughty business. It was dark and they only had small beds etc. One bloke was fondling a girl and began to suck her nipple, so much in fact that a warm spurt of milk was “Ejected” into his mouth. After other things he went to sleep very proud of himself.
The next morning he woke up to the girl and had a slight peer at her breasts. Last night he had not sucked her nipple, he had actually sucked a huge boil that was near her nipple, and the warm milk that was “Ejected” from her nipple, was actually a warm spurt of pus!
ARRGH makes me cringe writing that!!
Anyways, apart from him being incredibly stupid, and most obviously drunk, this made me realise something that if pulled off, could have some really major affects in life in general and more importantly games! (Nah but games are cool :o) )
This may sound incredibly stupid and many people have probably realised this, but.. if you think that something is similar to what it should be, you slowly begin to believe that it is the original thing you were thinking about. Finding certain things (going back to the nipple again, sorry!) like the size, and shape, so your thinking “Yea this is her nipple” for example.
So I'm thinking if you can make somebody believe that its s’posed to be something, and then its actually something completely different.. you could mess up some peoples heads out there! Absolutely great for horror games, but to do it on a wider scale, like taking over the world (:o)) you’d have to invent something new.
This is coming from my silly little non-game developing head but say..
You make the player believe that their torch is the way to see dark corners and dark area’s, but it actually activates a whole load of monsters to crawl through the floor and attack you. Seeing as this torch is your only way of seeing around, and because your starting to get taken over by fear you think “Nicely placed, I didn’t even see them! Scared me to death!” and carry on your game. It may be hours, even months before you realise that this torch which is actually s’posed to be your friend, is actually your enemy.
This is something that I just thought up using the rule above. But people who are paid for thinking about games, would come up with something sodding excellent. Have people having nightmares about games, people will start to think about using the obvious to do the obvious. Without actually thinking that it’s a trick.
Just a little thought for you all to keep those minds exercised
Maybe I should get on with taking over the world..
Laters, thanks for your time.

Could be useful in the near future.
> Good post mate
Thanks very much mate
I think you were basically talking about deceitful games. There are games already available that trick you, but only with their storylines. It would be brilliant if they could do the same with gameplay, generating an even more memorable experience that you'll come back to saying to your mates, "Oh, I remember when I picked up that gun and it turned into a flying zombat!"..something along those lines.
Good post mate
