Undoubtedly the top 2 games i am most looking forward to are the new Grand Theft Auto and the Getaway sequel.

Well, I'm fed up of people constantly going on about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, so any mention of that ends here. But what about the new Getaway title? What do you reckon it will have new to offer, and will people be convinced that the new additions are enough to warrant a purchase?

The first game is a fantastic experience, but i know that some people, especially casual gamers, didn't like it. You have to give it a chance, i didn't think too much of it after i failed the first mission for the last time, but eventually I came to find it is the greatest achievement of 2002 (After GTA: VC).

Anyway, back to the point, what will the Getaway 2 have to offer?

Well, for a start, a free-roaming GTA style environment where YOU choose which jobs to do next would be nice, but some people might feel that it would be deliberately ripping of GTA. After all, it was Rockstar who first came up with the idea of choosing the levels you want to play with GTA 2 (Even though that didn't work too well because you could complete a whole island by running around killing everyone in sight until you had enough money).

If the inclusion of the above wasn't put in, we need something totally original and amazing to convince us to buy it.

Let's see...I know a lot of people would say that they want the whole of London to be opened up and available to roam around, but I think the creaky old PS2 would be too slow for an idea such as this.

Right, let's have a look at the basic, obvious needs the game would have if it was to be any different from the original. Of course there needs to be new weapons. A chainsaw and flamethrower would be nice, and a rocket launcher is a must.

Also, I think that the fact that it is impossible to tip over a car in the original is a little bit unrealistic, so that needs to be addressed as well.

We need more missions and a better difficulty curve. Something along the lines of 35 missions would be nice, each getting slightly harder as you progress rather than having it hard through to impossible as with the original.

A more humerous approach would be welcome as well. I thought the original is a bit too serious for its own good and there needs to be a bit of comedy to lighten it up.

Finally, there needs to be side missions that you can take for a laugh such as taxi missions (Originally planned for the original) or a vigilante mission.

Selectable characters from the start would be nice, and how about some sort of radio soundtrack?

Whatever it turns out to be like, i'm buying it the day it comes out and no doubt others will too...

You thought the Getaway was the 2nd best achievement of 2002? After you "didn't think too much it"?
What about FFX, Timesplitters 2, Burnout 2, Ico, Ratchet and Clank etc etc etc.

And, did you notice, your 'improvements' to the Getaway would change it completely into GTA.
It would actually BE GTA, not even the Getaway any more.
That's the problem - to get ideas that are not from GTA, that'll keep people interested.
What you just suggested - chainsaws, radio stations, a more humerous approach? That IS GTA.
That's what it is.
That's what it does.
That's no longer the Getaway.

Sheesh.
