A large amount of gamers now have PCs as well, and whatever our personal favorite, Nintendo, Sony or Sega, we all know that for some time PCs have been able to outperform these consoles in a majority of cases.

With memory getting larger, speeds getting faster, graphics getting better, the PC will soon be outstripping the next gen consoles arriving this year and next. Wouldn't we all like to see our Sonys et al start to write games directly for the PC? Instead of then having to fork out huge wads of cash for a next gen console capable of playing sequels of games from the previous version, we could just upgrade our PCs as and when required at a small fraction of the cost.

Presumably, because these 3 market leaders have their niches and are going to milk them dry, they will start writing directly for the PC just after Sony releases the PS4 (Revolution) at 3 grand in 2004, Nintendo releases its Whale 256 at 2 grand a month later, and Sega release the Slumbercast bundled with Sonic XXXI and a litre of petrol just in time for Christmas 2005.

You may be right here.

PC's are in more homes than any consoles. Loads of games are available even on a new PC's release. The PC can also allow you to do other stuff than connect to the internet and play games.

What supports this more is the fact that PC's are entering our living rooms and even our Pockets. The TV used to be able to play just sounds and pictures but now you can email, play games (not consoles) type and much more. In the pocket you have Windows CE Palmtops which can connect to your PC and select and use files on it. And with mobile phones using wap services and text messages we can't escape from PC's.

However, Nintendo know this and are releasing a mobile phone adaptor for Gameboy Colour, 2 types of modem for gamecube and more. Sega have connected to the internet and Playstation 2 is going to be able to as well.

But can we trust PC's? On a PC with full internet connection, personal records are kept and sometimes even given away without your knowing. Also games piracy on the internet means you may not be playing the correct game. Also you have the problems of viruses, errors and other faults that contribute to the list.

I think consoles will always be in our hearts as they are safe, easy to use and have a wide range of games. They don't take long to set up and load almost instantly!

It could go either way.

Is the future secured here? In the good old PC? Starting out with the BBC Basic computer all the way up too a mega 1Ghz computer. They will still be more better than all the consoles as a mouse, keyboard and disk drives are all used in todays world loads. But with consoles, the CD's don't work in computers and cartridges don't either so the computer can be trusted in many aspects.

Graphics, memory, sound, speed, add-ons, loads of games and work programs, MS-DOS, internal clock. All these make the ideal system.
