I think many people have a problem with their scale of importance. Some people have visiting Grandma at the bottom, and something like making sure they've text-messaged the girl that completely hates them, at the top.

But lame introductions aside, where should gaming be on this scale? At the bottom? Well, there are a few things to support this, like when you think about everything in the world such as life, famine, sex, love, war, hate, racism etc - gaming really shouldn't be 'up there' with the rest of them.

But, Gaming is a hobby, one which brings joy to many people... people have fun when they’re playing games, and everyone knows what you turn into when you don't have fun - a gothic!... or at least a scientist. But on a serious 'for' note, gaming does bring joy and happiness to those who like play... this joy and happiness is part of a daily intake of emotion that keeps us alive. I know we don't need emotion to stay alive, but being mentally ill is as bad as being physically ill, maybe even worse! So gaming is important to some people, because it cheers them up, something that should happen to everyone!

But then again, look at the FOG... as soon as a Nintendo Vs Sony Vs Microsoft Vs Sega Vs Walkers Crisps topic comes up, everyone is at each others throats... a bit like when football fans fight! I mean honestly... who cares if Bill thinks Metal Gear is a better franchise than Mario.. he might be I’ll, he might be right, but at the end of the day it's only a bloody opinion! As long as you have the console you want, and the games you enjoy playing everything’s okay, right?

WRONG!

Gaming is a matter of life and death... these 'wars' which happen now and again are what hold the industry together... the friendly rivalries in the world (England - Scotland, England - France, Man United - Arsenal, Nintendo - Sony) are what give the world character! You get these people who say 'each to his own' and think that you're actually serious about HATING the other company... it isn't like that... it's just that you're better, you're company offers the better games, and they're more fun to play. Gaming, like football, should be taken 'seriously', not seriously, but 'seriously' - it is all in play, but no one admits that, it's just not kosher! Gaming is like a serious-pretend war... you take your side, pick up your sword, and go into battle. The casualties are no more real than in a game itself!

Gaming should be taken seriously. Gaming is 'A Matter of Life and Death!!', but remember... it isn't a matter of life and death!

The Game is absolutely right.

I can't think of anything to add to it right now though...

Obvisouly being Scottish, you had a bit of trouble making sense of the topic.

I though some people would, but you were one of the ones I thought would get it.

But nevermind - I'll explain.

Basically, I said that gaming was only as much a matter of life and death than football. It's a sport, and nowhere near as important as life...

Try re-reading it, word by word - use a translator if you must. :D :D :D :D:D

Basically: I said the banter and 'war' was all in fun, but serious fun, because it gave the industry character, and made it what it was.

I don't think gaming should be taken SERIOUSLY... but 'seriously' - see what I mean? Let's pretend, and all that!

Right, Game, you need slapped, because this topic does nothing but state what we already have (English hippy :D).

Once upon a time, this forum used to be a disscussion forum, where intelligent discussion was supported by well constructed arguements, backed by numerous examples, today we stoop to, mine's better than yours nonsense.......

In perspective, it comes down to entertainment, buy what you like, don't buy what you don't. Not for one minute would I expect a Westlife fan never to buy a Westlife CD again, just because I said they were crap, that's life......

I woudnt take it that far.

Once you get to a certain age, it just seems stupid to smash next sony man with N64.

Its all a waste of time. IF everyone was soooo happy with thier console then they woudnt go around bad-mouthing the others.
