Thing is, I'm stuck so if anyone is familiar with the game, perhaps they can help me.
I've just aquired the charge up laser and the more powerful rocket.
There's a yellow door I can't get through.
Also, there's two power ups I can't get to. They're across floors that crumble as I step on them.
One of these floors have spikes on the roof (so I can't jump over them)
The other floors I can just jump across, but then I get blocked by a metal do that closes.
Anyone know what I should do next?
A third person Jet Force Gemini style would be a lot more appropiate.
It would be 3D, advanced, look great and be faithful to the originals too.
Weren’t Mario 1, 2, 3, World, Allstars, Land 1, 2 etc etc all really GREAT games!?!
Yes they were! They were also 2D!
Mario 64 on the other hand was 3D!
Was this game PANTS?
NO!
In fact it was one of the greatest platformers in the history of computer games!
So why should Metroid suddenly become pants just because it has also made the switch to 3D?
Yes there are loads of fans of the original that would like a 2D Metroid game. Mainly for nostalgia reasons. But times have changed. If a games not in 3D then generally it won't be as well received by the general public, as it would be if it were in 3D!
I don't think that judgement should be made till more has been seen of these games.
As for me describing the game as having RPG elements. This was due to the fact that the game is made up of one huge map. Throughout the game you have to go back to areas you have already been to because you will have acquired a new weapon or gadget that can be used to find a new route or something. Also, throughout the game your character gets upgrades, like the ability to run super fast, or to jump incredible hights. I believe that if such things like this are implemented in Metroid Prime it will be a very good game.
Plus I’m a HUGH fan of the Metroid games! The very first game I bought for my SNES was Super Metroid. (Bought it before I even got my SNES!) And I’d have to say that I hope it will be a good game. So far I’ve not been too disappointed. Well you can’t really be too disappointed yet because hardly anything of the game had been seen!
As for your point about not being able to see the character. If your not like someone who plays Tomb Raider just to drool over Lara Croft, then it's not really gonna make that much of a different. Think about FPS’s where you get to pick your character to use in multiplayer. Why do you pick a certain character? Because you feel connected with that character or something like that. This just shows that you can sort of connect with characters in FPS's.
Also for the parts in the game where you roll up into a ball and move around, this part of the game is supose to switch into a third person perspective so that it's easier to control. So there you go! You can have a good ol' gander at Samus then!!! :D
Final point:
I have to admit that playing a 2D version of Metroid on the Gamecube with absolutely AMAZING graphics would be REALLY cool! But alas it's a FPS! But as far as FPS's are concered, I think it's gonna be a pretty darn good one!
:)
Metroid is a platforming shooter. If there were RPG elements in Metroid 3 then I've not noticed them.
Basically, Metroid was as much jumping as it was shooting.
I would've prefered a mix of jumping, shooting, rolling and using the hookshot.
An FPS game is all very well, but at the end of the day, it's not what metroid should be.
What's more, if you found a fan of one of the older metroid games and got them to play Prime, their first reaction would probably be "Where the f has Samus gone?"
Samus is a strong character and characters are wasted on FPS games.
Has there ever been an FPS with a strong lead character?
Turok and Joanna Dark were only seen in cutscenes.
Doom to quake featured your classic annonamous marine soldier.
In Goldeneye, you only knew you were Bond because of the music!
In FPS games you don't see you characters move so you can't connect with them.
All the major characters from Sonic to Mario, Lara Croft to Solid Snake, were people you could see and control.
So Metroid Prime will not only have unfaithful gameplay, it'll also lose most of the character and recognisable features of the franchise.
Personally, I think that Nintendo should take back the liscence, and let Retro release a fairly decent FPS game, without wasting a good franchise.

If they add the RPG elements which were in the side scrolling versions into the game, I think it'll be pretty WICKED! Just amagine Super Metroid but all 3D and in a first person perspective!
I think that if done well, this game will be BRILLIANT!
Think about the fact that Nintendo keep having a go at them to change certain bits, making them get it just right, and making sure it still has that Metroid charm.
I don't think Nintendo will let it be released till they are VERY satisfied with it! And so, by that point, it should be a GREAT game!
:)
It turned out that there was a "run" button! :-D
As for Metroid 4 (coming soon to GBA), it'll most likely be like the Snes version and therefore I can't wait.
As for Metroid Prime, it's only a matter of time before I do a topic telling the world how Retro Studios has ruined the theme and wasted the liscence by turning it into an FPS.
Also, isn't there a proper Super Metroid type game (side scroller) comming out on the GBA soon?
:)

I've got it for me SNES!

But where do I go from where I am?
I didn't ask for info on what I'll come across, I'm stuck in Zebes, looking for a way to get through a yellow door...
Can anyone help me get through this bit?
