Sean Connery was offered the part of Gandalf in LOTR. Can you imagine it, James Bond as a kick-ass wizard! Apparently he turned it down because he didn't want to go to New Zealand for 9 months - what a wuss.
I though it was Saruman's part that was offered to Connery?

Yeah, heard about this through my LotR geek-ness years ago. Damn him, it would have been great. I mean, Ian McKellen is good, but not as good as Connery.
