Is the videogame industry too obsessed with the future (i.e. the next big game/console to come out)? In other industries the past is treated with a bit more respect. In the film industry old films are still seen as being classics and watched by millions. The same obviously applies to the book market, where classic books can still sell in big numbers. So why can't the games industry do the same? What would be wrong with continuing to sell good games four or five years (or even more) after they first came out?

I'm sure that older 'classic' games (such as 'Zelda : A Link to the Past' and the older Mario games) could still sell (although obviously at greatly discounted prices). This would also stop games from being exclusively for those who can afford them, as older games and consoles would be affordable to everybody. There is still so much gameplay to be got out of many of these older games, some of which younger gamers have missed out on.

Perhaps if gaming media spent more time enjoying, assessing and criticising games that are already out (and have been out for years) then there would be less obsession with always reporting on the next game to come out.

What do you think?

what are u on?, you cant read a new FPS review without it being compared to goldeneye, or an adventure game without zelda or mario mentioned, unless of course it was written by an x box or ps2 fanboy, who has selective amnesia, but neutral mags like, games tm, always refer to old games, with respect, and even have a huge section each month on retro games

If older games have stopped making money for the people wjo sell them then there are not going to continue selling them, and make a loss. The games industry is not run for the gamers, like any other industry it is run to make money.
