Does anybody here have either the Creative Labs jukebox 3, the Jukebox Zen, or the Apple iPod?

If so, could you give me your views on them as I really don't know which one to get.

If you could comment on transfer speeds, shock stability, battery life etc.

So far, the Jukebox Zen is the more likely one.

Any help would be appreciated!

I dont knw about the record function, I think you have to buy a thing seperately to make it work. And the Headphone jack does have what appears to be a port suitable for an inline remote capable set, but knowing Creative, it would probably be a specific design available only from them.

I know the Zen doesn't have an inline remote (apparently due out in the near future, maybe Beards can elaborate on that), but does the iPod?

After looking around on the net, I think I have eliminated the Jukebox 3 from my options, these other two are just so much more desirable!

P.s Beards, I'm hearing mixed opinions on the Zen regarding the record funciotn - does it exist? I have heard it doesn't, and also that it does, but only line-in and not Optical-in.

BTW, thanks for your reviews!

I have an iPod.

The Creative Zen is a massive 20gb in size and at a great price for that. If you were to get an iPod at that size it would cost about £450 or so. So you are making a big saving. Plus 20gb will last you forever. I am having trouble filling up my 5gb iPod and I love music.

I'm not sure about this but I don't know if the Zen transfers through a USB cable or a Firewire. A Firewire cable is used for the iPod and there is a reason for that. Filling all that space is going to take time and the iPod gets it done fast with it's Firewire cable. You see, going through the Firewire port you get 10x the speed or something. Maybe more, but it is ALOT quicker. I pick a song, I press upload and it's on in about 3 seconds. Through a USB it takes alot more time as I have seen with my other MP3 players. If you don't have a Firewire port on your PC though you will need to buy one, only about £30.

The iPod's strength is in it's display. Unlike the Zens menu the iPod has alot more to offer. It has a game which is similer to 'Breakout' and songs can be arranged and played in many different ways. You can list by Artist, Album, Genre and all that rubbish but you can also upload your own playlists. So say your feeling sleepy you put on the 'sleepy' playlist which has been personalised by you. The iPod also has a Calender, clock, Address database and lots of settings. Rounded off by a nice big, clear screen which is lit up perfectly by a blue light.

You control the iPod by a scroll wheel which is genius. You have to try this one out to know how it feels, you move your finger round and everything is operated like that. Snazzy. iPod is like a mini Palm top PC, it's cool and looks great. A warning though, it scratches easily and the mirror-like back of the player will be have alot fos cratches and figner prints on it in no time. The headphones packaged with the iPod aren't that great and the bass levels within the player aren't as high as they should be, even with the 'Bass Boaster' equaliser on. Still, the sound is fine and updating the headphones will do the trick in most cases.

The iPod is like a second hard drive, I think you can stick anything you want on it, take it to another PC and then take it off.

The Zen looks great. I haven't sued one though. You'll be getting alot more space on it (you'll always have enough space for songs), unless you are willing to pay mroe for the larger iPod versions. The extras aren't all that but the price is good and it's got a Silver finish which i love, the iPod is White.

Both the Zen and the iPod run on the same kind of battery and lasts about ten hours or so. With the iPod I can charge up via the Firewire cable or through an adaptor. I don't know how it works on the Zen. Charging up like this can be helpful as it doesn't need batterys and you can just stick it in a Laptop or something whereever.

Got questions? Ask.

I have a Zen. Can't say I've noticed it respond to shocks at all, though it does get annoyed when I drop it. Transfer speeds depend on if you're using USB or firewire; battery life is supposedly 12 hours, can't say I've ever timed it, but it's long enough and you just plug it in to recharge every so often. The menu system is quite good, and the button placement is perfectly functionable.

It's smaller than a Jukebox 3, and cheaper than an iPod. Supplied headphones are a bit crap though, and the little cover thing doesn't seem to perfectly fit it, which is just poor. Also the software it comes with can be a bit annoying when it comes to naming tracks and ripping CDs.

That's about all I have to say about it at the minute.
