The storyline goes something along the lines of this:
It is the year 2070. World war three has broken out between the countries of Europe and most of Asia over the manufacturing of weapons which would not only wipe out countries, but entire continents. There is also another problem. Resources in America and the UK are becoming rare. Nobody has yet found a way of powering without electricity, and now the fossil fuels that it is made out of are running out. Allied forces have joined up to obliterate the countries which stand in their way. In the future, what is right or wrong is not important- it is all about power.
Ten years later and the people of the UK and US are left helpless and without any form of defence. Following a bloody battle which wiped out thousands of Allied soldiers, the US is the first sitting duck- and the UK is soon to follow.
The day of what it would seem is the end of the world is finally upon us. A nuclear weapon capable of destroying half of the world has been launched- and is headed for the US. Panicking civilians set out to sea in the desperate attempt to avoid their inevitable destruction, but most never made it…apart from a few.
Some people who had attempted to swim for it had drowned, but somehow the explosion of the nuclear weapon had caused a few people to mutate as they floated on the waves of the coastline. Somehow, the radioactivity of the bomb had brought them back to life and caused them to rapidly evolve into life forms that are still very much like humans, but that can live under the sea.
Struggling to cope with the distress of the whole ordeal, some saw suicide the only way to get peace, but a few others who were determined to live on created a magnificent undersea world- Atlantis...
So, the game?
Well, there are three modes of play that the gamer should become familiar with before they get started:
The first and therefore best mode of play is the adventure mode. As a sort of RPG-style experience you must first create a character (Choosing from the usual styles- fighter, berserker etc.) and then embark on a quest to travel the oceans in order to recover any intelligent life forms- human or otherwise. Extensive research on dolphins has proved to show that they are just as intelligent as humans and after months of study, humans have figured a way to speak to them to the extent of forming sophisticated conversation. Your mission is to go out to find resources and any help you can find in order for your civilisation to rebuild and launch an attack on the people who sent you here in the first place. You encounter enemies on the way which range from sharks to aliens who have noticed the destruction of earth and seen it as the perfect chance to gain an easy planet for their colonies. The thing is, these aliens aren’t too friendly.
Throughout this part of the game there are a couple of shocking story twists. The biggest one is that after travelling to the UK in an attempt to find any survivors, you find that the whole of England is infested with creatures that, due to yet another nuclear weapon being dropped there, have mutated into hostile monsters that you have to deal with.
The second mode of play is a management mode. This mode is slightly like Sim City- you must build the undersea continent up to a size where it could stand any attack from aliens, or other hostile creatures.
The third mode is a FPS where you must play as one of the fortunate people who managed to escape the explosion in the US and get into Iraq’s nuclear missile storage facility. You intend to sneak in, set a bomb on one of the missiles and get out of there before it explodes (The timer would be set to about 24 hours and the bomb is about the size of a thumbnail, making it very hard to spot). You can steal clothes to disguise yourself, and the gameplay is a mixture of MGS and Hitman 2. You must design traps and be intelligent if you are going to succeed.
I guarantee you, if enough effort was put into making this game, it would be the game of the millennium. Yes, I know it would cost an extreme amount of money to make, but surely it would rake in much, much more. I’m sure people wouldn’t think twice about buying a game which boasted to be three quality titles in one and that had a sticker on showing the 100% score it received from GM…
> Woohoo - very good...
Cheers :)
