For those of you that don't know, synaesthesia is an extremely rare neurological condition that causes the patients senses to become 'cross-wired' This can manifest itself in many different ways. There's one case where a bloke has coloured hearing. Sounds that he hears appear in his vision as colored geometric shapes such as cones, spheres and rods. Another chap has coloured taste, where he has a similar thing occur, but triggered by tastes. Apparenly, he was overheard while cooking saying "this chicken tastes far too spiky". Other cases include people who have feelings in their hands, limbs or entire bodies triggerred by various qualities of sound. For the most part, synaesthetes lead perfectly ordinary lives, as most of them have had the condition since birth, and it seems perfectly normal to them, as they've never known anything different.
Now, imagine if Rez truly did induce synaesthesia. How scary would that be, to all of a sudden have full body sensations, tastes and smells triggered from your joypad actions? That truly would be an amazing step forward in gaming technology, not to mention one that would probably be outlawed in most civilised countries.
Just a thought.
