Right, first things first, there are 4 different types of free kick in PES. Players who rocket the ball, players who lob the ball, the Roberto C style (Larsson too), and one where the guy stands way to the side of the ball (e.g. Tanaka for Japan)

I prefer style B, and Reycoba is the man for the job close in, Roberto C a little further out, so that's what this technique is based on...............

Right, the controls are important -

square - judges the height of the ball (not power)

hold up whilst power bar is rising - adds power, less dip

hold down " " " " - less power more dip

Triangle (whilst player is running up to the ball) - adds a little dip to the shot

Square (whilst player is running up to the ball) - adds more dip, but reduces power even more

Left/Right - swerve

Right, so there are fairly easy areas for you to decide which way to hit the ball. If you are closer than 22m, then pulling down and using X or Triangle, and swerving the ball from wide, towards the goal is the best technique.

Between 23 and 30m, just use normal technique, not up or down, and use triangle to add that little extra dip and swerve.

30m+ use up, and a little swerve to get the ball in, these are really difficult, but you can score some crackers. I had two saved replays of Roberto C hitting free kicks the way he did for real against France, they aren't impossible, it just takes practise.
