Well… What can I say? Hollow Man is a remake of the world famous film, “The Invisible Man”. Despite the strange twist to it and the superb graphics and special effects, Hollow Man is a film that you either love or hate.
Back in the day of “Footloose”, where we all saw Kevin Bacon as the new kid in town and “Karate Kid” where we all saw Elizabeth Shue playing the rich girlfriend, this film truly enhances their acting ability – I thought anyway. The reason I say that is due to the fact that they have obviously matured throughout the years and gained far more experience in acting.
The film is based on an experiment by Dr. Sebastian Caine (Kevin Bacon). He plays a brilliant but arrogant young and egotistical scientist working for the Defence Department. Turning animals invisible is one thing, but when Dr. Sebastian Caine tries it on himself, one starts to wonder. It felt pretty much the same as “Flatliners” in which Kevin Bacon alongside the other young famous cast finds a way to die and then come back to life. Hollow Man is similar to that except the dying part.
Using himself as the first human subject, Dr. Sebastian finds himself free to do the unthinkable. In fact there is one part of the film that leaves you wondering if he did or he didn’t. Don’t worry you’ll see what I mean when you watch it.
The storyline was ok. It was nothing much other than the same old “I want to be the first man” scenario. It has been done before, but I guess it is enjoyable to watch.
The special effects are great, although the storyline lacks in intellect. The graphics and special effects really do make up for it. Then again in today’s technological world, a film would not be a film them.
I give this film 6/10. It is worth watching but not a film to go crazy over. Then again, I would expect that this is my opinion and others may see different.
