Oh, sorry wrong quote.
Ahem, as The Joker once said, “can’t we all just…get along?”
If you look around these forums you’ll find many brilliant posts about all kinds of things, be they serious or a little bit disturbing, but there’s also a seedy side to the forums…console war “debates”. These dirty little threads are filled with grubby pre-pubescent tools whining on about how their console is much better than another one using baseless facts and zealot spiel, and more experienced forum members basically have a good laugh at their expense. Console war arguments are pretty fun to read through and it’s good to chip in with the odd witty quip every so often, but in the end, console war threads are a big tedious waste of time. Some threads don’t start off with the intention of being a console war topic; they just evolve over time into heated debates and later into console slanging matches filled with nerdy rage.
So what’s the solution to end console war arguments? Having an open-mind and buy all three consoles of course!
Although I’m chiefly a Nintendo fan, since the middle of last December I have owned all three next-gen systems. I’d got a PS2 some time earlier, and as a big Nintendo fan, I got my grubby mitts on the Gamecube on the day of launch. I had many apprehensions about getting the Xbox, waiting to see how it would take off with the general public and waiting to see the future prospects in terms of what games were coming. The decent Xbox games started to trickle out, and the future games looked rosy, and when the excellent value four game bundle came along, I felt frivolous and had to do it. Before I bought my Xbox, I used to make the odd light-hearted post about the big black box, but now I have one I’ve seen the light.
Much more space had to be made to accommodate the big black gaming hulk, but it now rests alongside my Gamecube and PS2, and I’ve enjoyed playing it very much.
“So why bother getting all three next-gen systems you greedy fool?” you might say.
Well, although getting all the consoles does have its initial financial snags in that you need a few hundred quid to spare, but as a dedicated gamer, I think of it in terms of the most important thing in gaming…the games!
I didn’t want to be limited in my gaming choices; if a great looking exclusive Xbox game came out, I’d love to get it but couldn’t, but now I can. A few years ago, when I had an N64, I used to look enviously at games like Final Fantasy VII or Resident Evil, so I eventually got a Playstation so I could enjoy the great games on that as well. It’s the same with the Xbox, before I had one I looked enviously at Halo and Jet Set Radio Future.
The games market has three big super consoles battling it out for supremacy, and hopefully there can be room for all three in the market this time despite what history decrees, and the increased cutthroat competition will lead to some amazing exclusive games for each system. The prospects for each console in 2003 look tremendous, with loads of great games being released on all three systems, plus the frenzy of online gaming is bound to be big, and having all three consoles so as to not miss out on a classic game is important to me.
Lets not have all this hassle about which console is best all the time…It’s time to blow the cobwebs off of your bankbook and scrimp, save, borrow, beg or steal, because if you really want to experience all the thrills that console gaming has to offer, I’m afraid you’re going to have to splash the cash, have a more open-minded approach to rival consoles, and not dismiss them out of hand before you’ve given them a chance.
“The Xbox is huge”, “the Gamecube is for kids”, “the PS2 is for casual gamers”. Forget about all that crap, they all have merits, so just enjoy them.
Could the most ardent zealots be turned?
Will there be gaming harmony one day, a time when all gamers can own all major consoles and actually agree?
Erm, actually, I think the answers are “no” and “no”, but what are you gonna do? I guess I’m just an idealist *shrugs*.

Close the door on your way out.
“Never rub another man's rhubarb.” :) good quote, one of my favourites.
be thankfull that there isn't a amiga forum here...
those amiga zealots could out 'zealot' any console fanboy any day of the week, they had an unbounded passion for their little grey boxes.
I think a few of them still exist, but are hard to find.
Worship the only true lord...

No...Wait.
It'll win a GAD anyway, nothing good's been posted today that I've read.
We can't just all get along, but I suppose we could get rid of the x-box big=stupid thing (childs).
