Macs are often considered to be jut work computers. They have a reputation of being for the more work orientated person than a PC. This is justified by programs such as Quark, allowing designers to layout books and magazines, and creat proffessional jobs, essentialy. In comparison to the PC, in terms of 'serious' work, the Mac is the best machine you can buy. Reputably more reliable, just as fast, and a lot more user friendly - *evil looks at Microsofts door* :)

But what people never ever think of is a modern game on a Mac. Is the new compuer in your house a Mac? And you want to play games? It may seem like bad news, but to be quite honest, whiles the variety pales in comparison, the Mac does have a good selection of games - and they are not all 'McGimps Adventrue To The Plaent Of Death'. Neither are they simple puzzle games or the like.

While the PC has an astronomical selection of easy to purchase titles, and like I have said before, the best choice of cross-polinated titles, the Mac has some gems. You can buy, right now, for the Mac, games such as Freedom Force, Ghost Recon, AvP Gold, Age Of Empires 2, The Sims and its various expansion packs, Harry Potter, Tony Hawks, Heros Of Might And Magic IV, Jedi Knight II, Soldier Of Fortune II, Max Payne, the Fallout series, No one Lives For Ever, Combat Mission, F1 Championchip and more. While some of these games are old, none of them are poor (except maybe the Sims :P). The point I am trying to make is that there are a lot of games out there that you can buy for Mac, and enjoy alongside the incredible work capabilities of the machine.

The Mac is not just limited to ports. It is capable of creating its own games - the business is beggining to start up,and with companies such as Pangea Software, creating titles such as Billy Frontier, the 'home grown' Mac world is growing. This might not be quite up to the standars of Breed and Doom 3, but the ideas and people are there. Halo is even planned to come out on the Mac - its not just for demi-classics!

The Mac has just as many peripherals as the PC, just as much potential to creat incredible games and have some real classics. In the future, there could be some universaly hailed classics that you can only play on a Mac. It really is not just for working. Sure, its not AS varied as a console or a PC, but the option is there - especialy if you have bought one for work, and you need some 'idle' distraction. :)

*Strokes his incredibly sexy flat-screen iMac*

Mmmm....

*ahem*

Actually, if you know where to look support for Macs isn't as limited as you may think, and the conversion time from big PC hits to make it to the Mac format is usually only a couple of months, so we actually aren't that far behind as you may think we are.

Mac +:

Damn fine looking,
Best OS,
Awesome and powerful programmes,
Virtual PC should you need it,
Much more user friendly,
More reliable,

Mac -:

Yes, there is less support and outlet's for them, but if you know where to look it's not that hard,
The games *are* behind PC,
Bloody annoying waiting for Microtosh to get Office OSX up and running (yes, I know it is now). No matter how much I dislike PC's, there's no substitute for Word.

So, ner ner.

Heh. The problem is, it's the top of the range ones that can do this or that. Most PC's from 2 / 3 years ago can cope with stuff today.

But hey, couldn't care less, they're only computers :D

Macs are brilliant. For ever.
They just ARE, so much better than blummin PCs and Microsoft and everything related therein.

The world is just beginning to notice what a lot of clever people did about 10 years ago.
They're a lot more simple then PCs - everythings USB, there's 1 lead, and the programmes themselves are a lot more user-friendly - not just a piece of software that'll get them money.

The one single problem with having a Mac is the Mac - PC crossover. Most of the time the two just aren't compatable.
This is only a problem as the world is so Microsoft orientated, providing a link between the two would more be more likely to lose money, as we're a monority.

As for gaming, they rule there too. The new G4's out are more powerful than your Pentium 4 PC, and a lot cheaper most probably. And the top-range powerbooks (laptops) you can get are really quite scarily powerful.
Again, the only problem with Mac gaming is the Mac - PC crossover. It doesn't happen very often. But it is, slowly, being done more and more. Soon, in a few years, Mac will have a proper hook on the world and everyone will want one.

I'd just like to take the oppertunity to say that Microsoft stole the whole 'point & click' system from Apple.
That evil b'stard.

I don't like Mac's for many a reason.

As you say, the games are scarce to say the least. I also find that programs aren't as good (such as Word or IE) on a Mac as they are in Windows.

However..

The Mac's look great, and our computing class has just had 20 new eMac's installed (you either love the design or hate it. I love it) and they have the smartest GUI (Mac OS X rocks!).

Compromise?
