Apparently Sony have already completed designing the PS3 and started on the PS4, Nintendo have completed designing the GameCube2 and Microsoft have completed designing the Xbox2! All of them except the PS4 are set for a UK release in 2005! What will we expect from these new set of the next generation consoles? Will they have a built in internet connection for surfing the web and playing online games?

But the most asked question will probably be: "Will your old games be compatible with the next in the series?" This is where I believe Sony made the right move as everyone who owned a Playstation could still play their old games on the new console. (Shame the memory cards were different though!). This restrained many gamers from being able to carry on their saved game on their Playstation memory card as it wasn't compatible with the Playstation2.

Also the Xbox2 is said to work more as a all round entertainment system with built in DVD, Video, CD, Internet etc instead of just the normal games system. If Sony and Ninteno don't come up with somethingbrilliant then maybe the Xbox2 will become the dominent console instead of the Playstation series. Nintendo are big favourites for younger gamers as they have all of the cartoon characters such as Mario, Luigi, Starfox, Sonic etc but will the market for kids games still be a multi-million pound business or will the older gamers slowly take over and most games left will be action, fighting, shooting, killing games and not suitable for younger gamers?

As we can see the two top game consoles at the moment, the Xbox and the Playstation2 are looking for new ways to play games and one of them is online gaming. Xbox are releasing Xbox Live this year and Playstation2 is going online this Spring/Summer. In the future will all gaming be played online using microphones and headsets? It sure does look promising and if the online services run smoothly and gather huge numbers of gamers then the future of gaming may well turn to complete online gaming.

Will there be another games console hitting the World with even better graphics in the future and one which can download games off the internet directly onto it's harddrive saving the cost of buying the game from a shop? All of these questions are left without answers until the next set of next gen consoles are released in 2005 and beyond!

The truth is out there but only the gaming giants have the answer! Will the next gen consoles be internet orrientated and change the world of videogames forever, leaving the Playstation2, Xbox, Gamecube and GBA looking old and dated and collecting dust in your wardrobe or chest of drawers? We will just have to wait and see!

Thank for reading!

This sort of thing angers me.

Is it really neccesary to rush consoles in order to try and beat rivals to the shelves.
the finished products shall suffer.
