Many times I have heard the mumbles that someone is disappointed in a football game because of the lack of a licence for player names and teams, most notably in the "Pro Evolution Soccer" series. I’ve heard complaints that the game lacks realism because of this seemingly important factor.

When "Pro Evolution Soccer" was released in 2001, it was met with rave reviews both by games' magazines and by consumers. Few seemed to be concerned with the lack of a licence for player names and teams. This small omission was often forgotten in the midst of Pro Evolution’s wonderful Master League, which allowed the gamer to experience a world of life-like player behaviour, accurate passing on a new level, and a perfect game pace. Indeed, "Pro Evolution Soccer" seemed to be perfect to the player who didn’t mind cheering on Ranildo. Sadly, many of those that didn’t take a liking to Ranildo seemed to shun "Pro Evolution Soccer" altogether.

Gamers with this hang-up on authentic names undoubtedly flocked to buy the latest in the Fifa series, claiming the authenticity made all the difference to the play. Many an arguement centred on how real names in Fifa couldn’t possibly weigh up to the realistic match engine in Pro Evolution.

It is my opinion that Fifa will only survive long as Pro Evolution has no name licence. Many Fifa players with a penchant for authenticity in the names will continue to overlook Pro Evolution’s superior authenticity in the gameplay. It’s unfortunate that the explanation to them that with a little work in Edit Mode, "Pro Evolution Soccer" can be as authentic as they would like. I have tried, but the very mention of Pro Evo causes an involuntary reaction in Fifa fans to clasp hands on ears and sing loudly and out of tune, “Fifa is da best” It’s all a dreadful shame.

Fifa fans that buy for “authenticity” sacrifice much more than their 45 quid, they sacrifice the enjoyment of playing the best footballing experience there currently is on a console. For some football fans, I guess it really is all in the name.

That's just a load of fan boy balls.

I had (still have Pro Evo) and spent hours playing it to death. Then I got Tif2003 which gives a very arcadey experience but played reasonably well. I then bought Pro Evo 2 and was thoroughly dissapointed with it, It certainly seemed to me ( And others here ) to be no siginificant improvemnt over the original and indeed I found some of the animations took precedence over gameplay, much like earlier incarnation of Fifa.

And that awful motion blur on the ball ? These things just slowed the game down.

I sold Pro Evo 2 on E bay a week after I bought it from SR for only £ 1.25 less than I paid for it and was glad to be rid of it. I was bought Fifa 2003 fro Chrimbo and must say I enjoy it alot. I have tried previous Fifa games and found them far too easy and most of them possesed the animation completing failure as mentioned above that Pro Evo 2 has inherited. The new incarnation of Fifa has improved considerably and once you get of amateur level the gameplay can be very demanding and all of the old 7-0 wins have gone out of the window. It loks good and plays good.

I still play the original Pro Evo from time to time and still enjoy it immensly, I also am playing Fifa 2003 alot and enjoy that as well.

They are both good games in there own right, different in many ways but both offer a very satisfying game of footy.

Pro Evo's a better game, whatever anyone says - it just is.
Lazy people say authenticity is a good reason for buying Fifa. But it's the worse game, so why buy it?

Anywho, you can easily change the Pro Evo names, or even buy smething to do it for you. Simple as that - and you'll have the best of both worlds. Huzzah!

Off topic, now. Cub, you're in my spoof, as requested. It's taking longer than I thought, but hang on.
Some bad news - BEARDS wants to eat you. Apart from that you're fine : )
