Right now the three main companies in the spotlight are Sony, Nintendo and Xbox. The odd one out has to be Nintendo. Nintendo have spent all their years focusing on a wider audience whilst Sony and now Xbox are focusing on an older audience with more action in their games. Nintendo's success is mainly due to fun in their games. We see previews of upcoming games and they don't look so good, but until you've actually played it you shouldn't judge a game.
Next-gen consoles, will they live up to the hype? That is the question we all want to know isn't it?! As we don't receive these until march this year we shouldn't judge them from what we've seen or haven't seen of them in the past. I admit, I got my PS2 mainly because I had a Playstation, and I just had this urge telling me I had to get one. I did, and everything looked stunning as most revolutionary things do. Now Nintendo fans, since the N64 you haven't seen anything that you can honestly say defeats other consoles in any way, this fact as well as the fact that you enjoyed the N64 makes you destined to get a gameCube. You're desperate to see the new graphics, play the new games and even if they're not that good you'll enjoy it anyway! I'm just saying this from experience.
Everyone said that the PlayStation2 didn't have such a great launch agenda whilst I saw differently. Shock instantly came over me from the moment I unpacked my blue box, and adrenaline rushed through my body as I set it up. Finally, I played it and everything seemed like a dream come true. Just comparing the ordinary Playstation to this was unbearable and quite shameful. The Playstation2 has definitely set the standards and Nintendo and Microsoft have noticed this. Now, they've aimed higher and once again raised the standards. There would really be no point at all if developers kept producing consoles to compete with other consoles that were of the same quality.
The fact of the matter is, change makes a difference; and a great change receives a greater welcome. I was totally astounded by only one of Microsoft's launch titles and it beat PlayStation2's predecessor in every way. I haven't yet had the privilege to play a GameCube, but believe me I want to. Once developers achieve in their makings, others tend to chase them either by increasing polygons per second or drive capacity, but sometimes you find that top developers work together, which shows that companies DO want us to have the best. Raising standards is a great thing that must continue or else we'll never see an oXo Cube :D
To the future.....
...go right ahead!
but overall a good article.
