The best joke I heard of the console was from some PS2 magazine, which said "the controller is really fit and snug in your hands, if they're demented".
Of course it's funny, but then you have to wonder why the Dreamcast was (notice my phrasing) accepted as being really crap. It sure can't be the games, anything from Crazy Taxi to Virtual Tennis have all been hgailed as magnificent by such multi-formatted magazines as Edge and Gamesmaster. Online was also not a problem, back in '97 - the Dreamcast release - it was almost like comparing a P.C to the SNES.
I ask this as fairly recently Sega have choosen to bring some of their better titles into multi-format status. Most noticably Crazy Taxi, the dissappointing Headhunter and the stunning Virtua Fighter 4. What struck me about this was that as soon as word came to other format magasines they started to hail Sega and the Dreamcast from the rooftops. Why? I quote "the brilliant company Sega have now choosen to bring their stunning Virtua Tennis series to the black box from the cruelly slated Dreamcast". What? HYPOCRITS. As soon as the other big S brings something good to the PS2 it's all hunky dory. We don't hear of the piece of crap or awfull game spewer from yesteryear (like that word?!).
My reason for writing this is quite simple - to give Dreamcast the recognition it truly deserves. O.K, I don't own one, but just by looking at the range of titles - Space Channel 5, Virtua Fighter and Sonic it really is no bad thing. I have a PS2, and will soon be getting an X-Box; so the Dreamcast will fade rapidly from many gamers minds. Let's remember it as the gap between PSone and PS2, rather that the pitiful attempt of console manufacture it was once (I hope after readign this post) thought of. Even don't have a Dreamcast, there are still top quality titles to pick up from SR on the cheap, aswell as the console reportedly about to be dropped in price to £50.

I tend to try and avoid any magazines that consistently slate other consoles with pathetic snipes.
If the only thing a magazine has to say isn't constructive and fair (e.g "Dreampants", "GreyStation") then it's simply not worth reading. Surely we're past juvenille bickering over consoles?
