Consider this...The bigwigs at Nintendo Co ltd in Kyoto pump in millions upon millions into Rare, heck-they helped build Rare what they are today.
Not only has the big N financed Rare, they partly own them. If Rare where to go multi format, I think Nintendo would be fuming! Probably like a child misbehaving in front of its parent 'Fuming', like throwing a tantrum in a cafe or a Funeral.
Yes it would be embarrassing, extremely! and if you really think about it, all of the major franchises that have become latched to the company will be forever disintegrated or more realistically- Transported back to Japan. The Franchises being Donkey Kong and anything associated with the ape (Namely the Rare created Diddy), Starfox, Mickey Mouse (Gaming License currently owned by Nintendo) and the Nintendo trademarked owned Joanna 'Perfect' Dark.
Disastrous yes, in fact it would be extremely stupid; and as it turns out- Rare where not too long in responding to the accusations levelled at them as a response to their 'Suspicious' Christmas cards, calling them "Just a bit of mischief".
Mischief indeed!, its possibly orchestrated by Nintendo themselves! Think about this for a moment, 'My own little conspiracy theory' as it will, which could contain some grain of truth.
Being:
'Nintendo realises that Microsoft are going to enter the market with all guns blazing, they realise that Rare are a valuable asset to them, they are after all 'Hip' and 'Cool' so they want to stir a little pre-Euro release trouble by increasing public perception of NINTENDO, namely to build hopes up with Multi Format gamers the world over, that they want to feel how 'Great' Rare would be on their system- exploit themselves a liitle bit to put it simply and advertise a 'Nintendo owned Brand' that spews across the ranks of their rivals'.
Heck it worked didn't it? The Card was visible on Playstation sites the world over and even on X-BOX sites plus others...you name it!
And then a few days later Rare turn round and said they are Gamecube only! What a kick in the teeth that would have been, to all who built their hopes up. Well my theory is possible....
Or quite possibly a piece of drivel on my part.
But really there is more to it, Rare just didn't release the Card for no reason, nor did they do it for a 'Bit of Mischief', it was done for a purpose. And 'me thinks' my explanation is viable (to a certain extent).
Right now Nintendo are probably sniggering at the thought of this 'Gamecube' publicity stunt cramming the thoughts of so many disappointed Sony/Microsoft heads the world over. Who knows!
> Mischief. They're perfectionists at exploiting idiots.
Need I say Goldeneye
> Beta cartridge? :0)
Id love that cart, Playing as Sean Connery, Moore etc plus using the Black Spider gun.
And as for the Perfect Dark Beta, Id love that too- face mapping features included.
It just so happens that the staff at NGC magazine have one, considering N64 had a Idea section for the game that someone proposed the face mapping idea in.
I was there too.
