Games are regularly targeted by watchdogs and consumers as being generally bad value for money. Instead of joining this veiw i think that comparitively games are actually quite good value. I don't like spending my money anymore than the next person but if you think about how long a game lasts and then compare it to something like going to the cinema (£6),playing golf 18 holes(£12), buying a book (£6 paperback, or £12 hardback) or even buying a dvd (£15) you can see that games are not that bad value. If your average new game cost £36 you can see that you can get about 12 hours entertainment at the cinema, 10 hours golf, 6 books (probably the best value but many would say the least fun) or just 5 hours of DVD. Most modern games are at least 10hours long and just if not more enjoyable and often due to multiplayer functions the fun can be shared with others for no extra cost greatly increasing the lifespan. The issue is not that games are bad value, it is either other forms of entertainment are to expensive or that it is prices in general that are too high.

At £5 per hour at your job, it would take you a day to afford a game. If you play it for more than a day it's made it's money back. SSX was outstanding VFM in this way!
