Ever since Sega and Nintendo came on the scene to battle it out between their first consoles, there has been a war waged between manufacturers. Today's console wars are nothing new but what sets them apart from previous efforts is the amount of money that the companies are spending on advertising and enticements for developers. There is also a lot of money to be lost, Sega showed that a company can go right to the edge and still survive but it's reputation has never been the same. With the PSX2 and Gamecube, plus Microsofts Xbox this mass marketing mayhem will surely increase, but is it good for the consumer? Do we want one console selling well and another doing badly? If you bought the 'wrong' one you might disagree, it's getting to be like backing a horse for people buying consoles.
I for one will hang on to my Dreamcast and hope it continues to survive Sony's next attempt at winning the public, but then, I still have my Saturn and I still love playing the games for it. Will I buy a PSX2 etc? Yes, if I have the money, but not yet and certainly not until I see how well it does.
