I have just picked up silent hill 2 after hearing rave reports of it. After getting used to the controls I have only played as far as the graveyard scene with that brunette. The beginning has been frustrating so far though! No interaction with any of the scenary (except retrieving a map from a car). Pointless long path down a mountain in zero visibility (how the feck did sunderland begin up there anyway?). And the cinematic scene speech is drawn out as if it was made for the hard of hearing or non speakers of English. Couldn't they have added a seperate soundtrack for idiots???

Anyway, does the pace of the game pick up...or is it 30+ hours of slllloooooowwww gameplay?

Funny you should say that. When you do start to run you do slow down slightly after a second or so of running. Better still is when you actually stand still after running James breaths deeply trying to get his breath back. The longer you have been running the longer it takes for him to get his breath back. It's the little things that count!

That would have been superb. Imagine having to make the decision whether or not to sprint? If you sprinted you'd get tired and may not be able to get away if needed, but then again if you didn't you may be giving an enemy the opportunity to stalk you.

In an ideal situation the game would go through time transition meaning you had to rest to get your energy back. Imagine trying to find a secure place to rest your character?

It's all stuff to be considered for the future.

Surely that's the point of the game? It all begins somewhat slowly to build up a little tension. There's no point diving straight into the action.

I haven't got the game yet (still waiting for it to arrive!) but if it plays like i've been reading (e.g builds up at a nice pace) then i'll be very happy.

I've got DMC for all out action. Here's hoping SH2 is all about atmosphere and feeling.

If you have a look at the second CD that comes with it called "the making of Silent Hill 2" the produces say that they made the path long as to give the impression that Silent Hill is quite isolated and far anyway from anything or anybody.
James is up there because he came in his car and if you walk along the raod (towards the tunnel) you will see that the road is blocked off. Its the only road in or out of Silent Hill.

It does start off really slowly but the more you play the better and more scarier it becomes!! Its an excellent game that demands attention!!

SH2 does require a bit of your time but I'd say you're looking at around 10 hours of gameplay.

In fact, give it another 10 minutes after the graveyard and it starts picking up nicely after that if not quite into a 'thrill a minute'.

Great game though - definitely give it some more time - there is some great stuff not far away.....

Also, seeing as this game was purchased at the office to play during breaks, do you think it might be too much of a "must devote time to" game? If so what game would be a better alternative? GTA3? (don't have to think missions rather than long drawn out puzzles...)
