From cube-europe.com:

"The last of the Miyamoto news, and quite possibly the biggest.

According to Miyamoto, the GameCube Mario Kart title has already undergone localisation for North America, which has been completed. The title should be shown at E3, and will have several new innovations.

Update: Clarification on the report, apparently the game hasn't been localised for North America yet, it isn't even finished. It was a bit of misunderstanding from Miyamoto saying that some North American voice recording had been completed.

On the note of online possibilities, Miyamoto said this, "We’ve been conducting online experiments with Mario Kart for quite some time. This time around, we’ve looked at it and I still feel that [the kind of experience Mario Kart delivers] would be very difficult to pull off online."

No Mario Kart online? NOOOO! That could, nay, SHOULD have been the trump card dammit! The proverbial ace up the sleeve, secret back-up plan... Ahh, who cares. Mario Kart GC at E3...whoo!!

(Portable being significant in that you can take one cube to another. A bit less hassle than dragging an xbox to your mate's house)

Maybe mario kart online would lack something, but if ninty would focus on networking a couple of consoles, mario kart between 2 cubes would be sweet.

Hell, the cube has a frickin' handle, it's the most protable console outside a gba. And yet it's the only one with no coherant console linkage policy.

Lame.

Just read the SR snippet on it, and my attention focussed on the part about it being 'very difficult'.

Hopefully that means they'll be a single player worth having this time. What unlockable features would you like to see? I think having loads of unlockable characters (a la Smash Bros) and some of the old N64 tracks (Only the good ones like Wario Stadium, mind) would be sweet.

I'm still crossing fingers for online capabilities, I would love to play some of you guys off here at some games, especially Mario Kart.

Still E3, yay! Finally the game (apart from Zelda) we've been waiting for.

Online gaming is mainly just full of hardcore geeks anyway. I've played quite a bit of MoH:AA online and the amount of hardcore clan types on there is amazing (but I do put up a good fight).
Generally I think 'average' gamers won't enjoy going online if they're just going to be constantly beaten and intimidated by nerds who live in cyberspace.
It would be good for Mario Kart to be online, but life goes on, the 4-player split screen mode will more than compensate I'm sure.

I was surprised to see the price of The Sims Online. You get your first month online for free, but then must buy 'Time Cards' for three months play, and a Time Card costs a whopping £24.99!
I'm a big advocate of The Sims, and going online would be OK, but for that hefty price, you can forget it.

Is online the future of gaming?

No.

I'm not too keen on online gaming, and will only bother with the GameCube online when it becomes free to play online (ISP charges only).

Strange that I'm getting Phantasy Star Online on the GameCube...but it'll give me plenty of time to build up my characters before I do go online :)

And surely it'll only get here sooner if it doesn't need to be suited with all kinds of on-line extras and modifications that could lengthen the development times?? :)

At least it'll still have its kick-ass 4-player options though, and I'm sure it'll better-than-ever-before, looking at the time it's taking, and the technology Nintendo have available to them.

Just as long as it has more tracks, more characters, extras, and some unlockable stuff, I'll be happy. :)

Dammit, it would of kicked online.

But as you said, oh well, it'll still kick anyway. Bring on the E3.
