As the world moves on into the future there are many games that are around now or that have been around that would play as well as they do/did due to external factors that we as gamers have no control over. Everyone knows that 90% of what is in games isn't possible in real life and that it is merely make believe, allowing your imagination to run wild. In todays market however games developers are constantly trying to make their games more and more realistic. Whilst they may not be making the content always realistic with you having to kill aliens or take control of a boxing kangaroo, they do make your characters movement(s) realistic as well as their appearance.

Once games developers are satisfied with the level of complexity in a character and feel that they can't make them/it more realistic what then? Well the solution would obviously be to make the rest of the game more realistic. Whilst many of you are now shouting that they do this already I tend to disagree! Games can become outdated quite quickly, through no fault of their own (I.E. Football Management games due to clubs buying/selling players), and so they should be made as realistic as they can be in the first instance or when the sequel to the series is realised. Here are some examples of what I mean:

Ecco the Dolphin
Whilst when first released this game was raved about I was a bit suspicious how a dolphin could travel such vast distances over such long periods of time, yet never get caught in a Tuna net. This was especially surprising seeing how around the time of it's original release there was a huge row between Spanish fishermen and the WWF/Green Peace over the fact that the Spaniards weren't using dolphin friendly nets. This was never incorporated into the game to give more realistic gameplay.

Midnight Club 2
Whilst the first in the series gave racing fans something they'd been waiting for, for a long period of time, it's going to be interesting to see how the second fairs. In the first game you had the chance to race through the streets of New York or London. I am unaware of where the second edition of Midnight Club will allow you to race, but you have to wonder if RockStar have incorporated the congestion charge into the game if the game were to allow you to race in London. If you didn't pay the £5 a day fee then you would obviously expect a £80 fine (£40 if you pay within a shorter time limit). No I know some vehicles are exempt from paying so this should also be reflected in the game for Motorbikes of Vehicles with 9 seats or more. I would also hope for a feature that would pop up whilst you in the middle of a game that says "The Government has just raised the tax on petrol, you can now no longer afford to drive, GAME OVER"....that would certainly make it more of a challange!

Championship Manager
Whilst I'll praise this game until I'm blue in the face **whacks out the face paints** there needs to be more realism in not only this but other football management games. I want to see Alex Ferguson and Arsne Wenger blame everything other than themselves or their players for loosing a game, and then whine when a throw-in that went the other teams way after 19minutes , helped create their goal in the 75th minute, whilst the worm that tackled Giggsy on the halfway line gifted them the second. However there is currently no feature that allows you to moan like this. There is also a serious lack of crowd violence! Not that I'm condoning it, but where's the violence from the fans of Villa, West Ham, Milwall and Wimbeldon....after all isn't that what footballs all about?

Any Role playing Games
How long does you character wonder aimlessly about for? The answer is ages! Yet how often does you character stop to actually grab a bite to eat. Sometimes, games will include power ups that replace your characters energy, but they seem to eat these far too quickly...and never get heartburn. It would be understandable if there were a box of Rennies as a power up later in the game but there never seems to be any. Therefore your character either has to go hungry, or have heartburn/indigestion throughout the rest of the game. Another key point is the amount of time your character can go without needing to go to the toilet! I for one have never played a game where my character was a camel and so I can't understand how this is humanly, or otherwise, possible!

As you can see in reality games are just simply that, games. Therefore as much as games developers try to make games more and more realistic, are they making it more realsitic to the world, or more acceptable to what your imagination would percieve as real. All I know is that as soon as Lara Croft wants to settle down and have kids....I'm only on the other end of the phone!
