"Have you had enough with the same old games?

"Do you long to play what you want to play the way you want to play and
however you want to play?"

"If the answer to the two above questions is yes...then tough".

Why? Because we don't make the games do we. No, we are the ones that go out
there and buy them when there put out on the shelves. Every week we are
spoon fed another set of games, whether they are good, bad or downright
ugly, they are the only ones we get to pick from. And then when we buy them, we realise that we didn't have any say in this game what so ever.

It's frustrating at times, isn't it?

A game you have heard about and like the sound, but then it turns out to be complete and utter twaddle (that's a word, believe
me). It could have been so different if only the gods of the gaming
world...that being the developers, actually listened to one set of people.
The most important people in many respects of the whole industry. The
gamers.

Imagine, if you were given the say in how games worked, how they would play.
You, getting your own say on the upcoming blockbuster. Think of the
possibilities! If only developers spent more time finding out what people
want to play, might we not get better games?

Personally I think this is really an untapped area of research. And free at
that. If many of them asked people what they thought should be included in
there upcoming games, then im sure many of us would gladly give them some
ideas that we wouldn't mind using, and free at that.

There is huge potential in us all. What's better than a whole collective of
minds, who love gaming, coming together to create many brilliant games? It's
not such a far-fetched idea, and one that could be done. Some developers
have gone a little down this road, but not many. Things as simple as setting
up an email address for ideas on a game in development could be a big hit.

It's an idea that could really take off. But hasn't. Are some of developers
worried that we might do them out of a job? Are they keen to keep games
completely thier own? So that they keep their elite status? Maybe they are
scared that we might want to kill of there lead character...because to be
quite frank...im sick of seeing Lara Croft.

Our minds are the greatest things in the world, and can come up with all
sorts of wonderful ideas. We the gamers have played many many different
games over the years, across many genres and many plots. We possibly know
what works and what doesn't better than anyone. And playing all these games
means that we could cross and link game ideas from elsewhere, to make even
better games.

Its far too frustrating at times, to see games that held so much promise, to turn out to be utter rubbish by the needless fact that the ideas they
eventually used weren't that good.

Someone ought to take on board the idea for just one game. As an experiment.

Give the people a title and a basic plot line and genre type. And then give
it to us. Let us set out the way the game works, go a little deeper into the
plot and how it plays, what we want to happen, how it happens and so on. Let the developer then piece it all together, and then let
them then focus solely on making the game play damn well. It wouldn't be a
short process, but by the end of it, we could end up with a damn sparklingly good game in our hands.

It can't hurt can it?

We all would love the chance to make 'Our Games'

One day someone might actually catch on to the idea, and take it further...

"Have you had enough with the same old games?"

"Do you long to play what you want to play the way you want to play and
however you want to play?"

"Well come right in, and put your ideas forward, who knows, your character
might be in the game!"

Actually, Pro Evo, I've said it before. You are not the first : )

Although legal issues may actaully come into it, if someone gave you their idea, and you used it, they could say you stole it off them (and have it all down in writing) and sue your innocent bee-hind.

The problem is that many ideas that come from fresh game "designers" and programmers are rarely taken in as an enitrely new game project - instead, game ideas usually come from the publisher in charge (or has a contract with the developer), or at best, from the senior staff.

Of course, although this applies to most small, independent developers, there are many that have gown well enough to be able to afford to incorporate ideas that come straight from the developer - look at Lionhead, for example - and there is always a continual stream of young upstarts that bring their ideas to games - but these too usually come from the senior staff.

Interesting post - the only aspect people look at this is making a world and adapting to it like in simms. I wonder if game developers ever look into forums like this and research people views on games and try them out? im sure many of them read reviews and try to improve sections in sequels.

For example the Pro Evo series, we could come up with improvements and have done over the past few years and 'some' of them have been developed into the game and many haven't.

I suppose when it comes down to it then don't want someone telling them how to produce a game but they probably research ways to improve an already developed product.

Good.

Thats means, since i put the idea forward and got there first...i demand a 20% cut of all profits.

Fairs Fair.

When I'm a game designer I promise to take into the opinions of the gaming public.
It seems perfect sense to me - I'll probably come on here and ask people's opinions on things, they would surely have thought of thing I hadn't.
Simple, many good games will be made.
By me.
